Advice wanted,

Featured Replies

As you may have read in another thread I started, we really wanted a 4x4 DSG diesel, but was told Skoda didn't do one.

Since then things have changed, so rather than getting a 2WD petrol Yeti (to replace a Fabia) for Mrs CT17 to run little CT17 around, we are looking at getting a 140bhp diesel DSG Elegance.

I could really do with a bit of help/advice with the optional extras.

The 4x4 diesel auto will become our family car, we currently have a five year old Range Rover Vogue diesel which is up for sale. This is to be replaced as it is expensive to update, big and does not get used much. Plus Mrs CT17 refuses to drive it due to the size and chance of it being damaged. It's nice, but no longer practical for us.

With this in mind we plan on the Elegance spec, with some extras.

Can anyone tell me...

What the difference is and why you pay an extra £155 for a three spoke steering wheel instead of a four spoke which is standard?

What else the Sat-Nav system includes over the standard Elegance stereo?

The actual boot dimensions with a spare wheel. Depth and width as everywhere seems to only mention a volume capacity in litres.

Can you retro-fit a parking heater, as it's an option outside the UK. We really like that on the Rangie.

I looked in the pinned topics but couldn't see these things there.

Many thanks. B)

Hi

Dimensions of the boot with spare wheel fitted are:

Front to back: 67cm

Side to side: 101cm

Height to parcel shelf: 46cm

Cheers

And here's how it looks like. Hope that helps, too.

In my view, the diffeence betwen three and four spoke steering wheels is £155!

Dunno what the standard radio is on the Elegance in the UK, but I am very hapy with the Columbus. It is not perfect, but integrates well and is very easy to read, particularly as you can have the Nav screen on an overview and get the detailed close in instructions on the MFD. Here in DK, it was cheaper to get a Parrot for the hands free telephone than the Bluetooth on the Columbus - it also works well, but irks me that it was necessary with an additional little screen and button panel for something that should be included in the nav system. On the other hand, the two microphone directional of the Parrot makes your voice reception very clear for the person on the other end. Important to me getting business calls underway.

With regards the 3 spoke steering wheel, I personally don't get on with them, as it places my hands in an uncomfortable position, whereas the standard 4 spoke is fine. I think the 3 spoke is suposed to be more sporty.

The Columbus unit is brilliant, I've used one in my Octavia for a year now. It can play SD cards like the Bolero, but can also store MP3's on its hard drive, play DVD's whilst stationary, unless modified, play TV with an extra TV receiver. I'm using an old version of the firmware so as not to run my battery flat, newer versions are even better.

You could save £££££ by using OEM Retrofits, who charge £600 fitted for a refurbished unit I believe, which they tell me they source direct from the refurbisher/factory. They are based in Bradford, but come down to London once a month, and they fit it while you wait.

I am also planning on getting a 2.0 4x4 DSG elegance, with a few extra's, but will have the columbus added after I have received the vehicle, saving me approx. £835.

I would love to order an elegance with alacantra, electric memory seats & powered folding mirrors with MDI, but none of those are available in the UK.
