FElly diesel

Featured Replies

Does the air restrictor (tapered pipe) on the inlet side of the airbox have any effect. I have removed mine and it appears that the throttle response is rather better.I am not sure whether this will affaect the engine management or not.

Do I leave it off or put it back.

Also does blanking off the EGR inprove the performance or not. I have heard contradicting reports of this so am I wasting my time in blanking it off?

As the saying goes " Every little helps".

P.S. Who says Felly oil burners do not handle!!!! I keep amazing myself whilst exploring the outer limits of vehicle dynamics.

I don't think the engine is that 'managed'. I also seem to remember Jim (felicia16v) saying that blanking off the EGR is a good thing, plus cleaning out all the goo from it. I've not got round to doing it on mum's car yet.....

They handle OK for an old diesel bus, but they're quite understeery. I'm had worse (Mk5 Escort), but I've had better too (Focus)

There isn't an engine management unit so you're ok there!

I would say that blanking the EGR would be a good thing and certainly won't do any harm as the only reason it's there is to reduce emissions.

I think the felly is an ok handling car if you know what it can do and you're not afraid so role around inside a bit but it's far from good IMO. Started driving our Peugeot 306 and you really see the difference going from a felly. The pug is miles ahead of the felly for a car of the same era (it's a 1998 1.9D).

Also having driven a diesel felly I found it felt quick but the accleration was actually very slow in comparison to how it seems in the pug. Also the felly diesel has 63hp and 91lb-ft torque compared to 70hp and 94lb-ft on the pug which I was suprised at as they are the same size engine etc.

:moon: yes blank off the egr either by blanking the vac line to it or making a solid gasket, once you have done this remove the airbox and the ram pipes and clean the sticky gooey stuff off them and you will be suprised how much differance it makes. i have seen the ram pipes clogged up so that there was about a 10mm hole thru the middle for the air (they are around 20mm or so and 4 inches long )

i found that removing the trumpet gave better low down but worse top end :moon:

:wonder: erm yes there is phil.. it controls the start/stop solenoids, and other stuff like the idle boost solenoid and the glow plug system and egr valve.
