Camera Help

Featured Replies

Hi guys and girls. Mum is looking to upgrade camera as being used more now and the digital camera just isnt as good now- Bit dated. Looking really at dslr cameras i think. Need it mainly for taking pictures of race horses in paddock and moving etc. So a quick capture feature maybe? So just snap a few times if that makes sense? Looking as cheap as possible, anyone got any recommendations?

Cheers

Anything Nikon. You will need 200mm really for any proper race meet.

*waits for anything Canon post*

Here are a couple from Ston Easton P2P a couple of years back.

towards the £400 mark im thinking :)

for £400, getting something fast is going to be hard - maybe go 2nd hand - don't get a professional camera tho, people like me use them hard - but on the other hand, they usually get looked after.

My Nikon D3 has been around the clock, and currently has around 130,000 frames on it with no issue. My D3x is not a year old yet, and is used in the studio etc, but still has over 60,000 frames on it... i did however had an aperture issue with a Professional Nikon lens earlier in the year... this was fixed by Nikon within a week, for a mere £34 inc post back and a clean too!

As Foo says, Nikon's are a good bet - dare i mention Canon also - you'll have alot more choice of Lens and flash's than that of say the Sony Alpha, Pentax or Olympus systems.

Remember it's not all down to how many pixels you can cram into a sensor, the old Nikon D1X can still produce a good image with the correct lens. - the Canon's usually require shooting in RAW mode, rather than JPEG's to get a good result.

Thumbs up on the Canon options too :)

Any links of any to recommend to me in regards to being a good camera that can take continuous shots etc.

cheers

For easy use, quality images consider the Canon G11. It is not a DLSR or the fastest continuous shooter - but can do 1 FPS.

Equally - have a browse on DPReview.

How about this: My link

Well reviewed on DP review and availabe with x2 lenses at £449.

As Foo says anything Canon. 450 DSLR is down to around £400 these days. Quick capture as you say, so maybe a non dslr will be adequate such as the Ixus range, very compact and with a host of features. Stick to the well known camera brands such as Canon Nikon Fuji Minolta. AS said before the number of pixels should come second in choice after the lens quality.

Another vote for Canon here. Mind you, there’s very little to choose between Canons and Nikons at this price point. All imho of course
