Buying Advice

Featured Replies

Thanks to everyone for your recent help regarding octavia vrs options / colours etc.

I just wondered what people experiences are like from a purchasing point of view,

Thanks to your help i've managed to sort the option,

Anthracite

Leather

Rear parking sensors

Xenons

curtain airbags

maxidot

I'm a big fan of supporting local dealerships but the reviews for many of the ones in around leicestershire havent been great and equally i'm not made of money (especially now the new addition to the family has arrived)i. Drive the deal seems to suggest i should be able to get the above for about 17.6 with 2 years 0% but has anyone used them, or know of a dealership who can match / get close.

As always your thoughts are very much appreciated

I'm at the same stage as you, choosing / deciding and I think it's personal choice as to what, if any, options you go for.

I'm seriously thinking of reducing my options list as you don't get your money back when change time comes around but one that I have heard most if not all people mention is a full size spare (only £55 iirc).

Your car can be cared for anywhere so surely it's not too much hassle to travel a few miles to actually order it? I like you am keen to support local business but if there's a wedge of money in it that in itself is the perfect answer for if my local dealer says to me 'why didn't you buy it from us?'

Color anthracite = no, Black or silver

Leather = no, do not wear shorts on sunny days

Rear parking sensors = OK

Xenons = OK ( I order the washers and then put a 6000k CAN-BUS xenon kit, alot cheaper)

Curtain airbags = I´m in favor of safety

Maxidot = ok, can do many things with it

You´r missing

Sunset = Ok, tinted window

Radio Bolero = Ok, excellent stereo( mine has bluetooth and works on maxidot)

TPM = OK (TPM= type pressure monitoring)

Like myself I also got the original floor rubber mats, do not order the silver roof bars, get a estimate of the cost of painting, if done well like mine it looks and lasts as the original ( they have to give a fixer paint on the bars because they are plastic and then can be painted. Mine where painted like the rims, grey metalic)

I also got the boot rubber mat.

IMHO, leather and xenons are expensive options. Rear parking sensors and maxidot are must-haves - relatively inexpensive and great for gadget fans.

In my experience, many dealers wont haggle off the vat-free price, even when you mention you're going to buy from DtD. If you get within a few hundred pounds of the DtD price, then you're doing well. A few names seem to crop up all the time on here - Rainsworth in Nottingham seem to be keen on prices, but I also have a good quote of the forum sponsor Allams of Epsom. Best to email some dealers and ask for a quote. I recently purchased off Sinclair in Swansea and was pleased with the deal. It does depend on timing though, I found some dealers who had given good deals to other Briskoda members weren't willing to repeat them.

Leather on a VRS is really really cheap compared to other cars and the standard pale seats look to me as though they would get grubby quite quickly.

Farmers Leicester wouldn't get near the price Justin at Silbury gave me, so i'm treating myself to a train ride and a nice drive home come collection day. It's a shame as I would have preferred to go with a local dealer, but a grand saving is far too much to ignore.

I've had many different cars over the years and I reckon that the standard headlight performance on the FL Octy takes some beating. I had a good late night drive back from the West Wight last night; hardly any traffic around, so on main beam 95% of the time. I really appreciate what a well sorted set of lights the standard ones are. I really would not spend good money on xenons. If you ever get a bad stone hit, you'll bawl your eyes out anyway!

In my time - I've seen headlights go full circle so to speak; started out with bulbs, (crap), then onto sealed beams - not much better, then back to bulbs again. Save a shed load - get a set of uprated bulbs from Halfrauds if needs be - a much cheaper solution.

From the current catalogue, it looks as though a full sized spare is no longer an option with the Vrs. Only a concrete mixer wheel. From a quick look, it seems that perhaps only the Elegance spec with a 16" wheel can be got with a full size steel wheel. I gather that from what some other contributors have said, it's possible to fit a Vrs alloy and tyre in the well. I think I would dump the idea of Xenons and order a full size ally wheel and tyre. Much more useful if you have a shredded tyre at 1am in the middle of nowhere.

I had a Fabia Vrs before and although the light coloured ulpholstery looked as though it might be problematical, it never was and when I gave it a good shampoo just before I sold, it all came up like new.

I have ordered an Octy vRS, Not bothered with Leather or Xenons, as there appears to be an evenly mixed review of whether the xenons are worth it & having leather lounge suite in the house, well that decided it for me based on last winter & this summer so far .

Because im going from a Small to a large car I have ordered Front & Rear parking, along with Maxidot, the fitted radio/CD/mp3 will do me fine, although I an seriously considering a Parrot kit for my phone.

I have been spoiled with the Fiat, the std Blue & Me software along with the Steering wheel controls are well thought out & work very well, so this I WILL miss emoticon-0106-crying.gif

I have opted for a £55 spare, the dealer will sort out swapping the supplied space saver with a full size for me @ no extra cost ( reeesult emoticon-0103-cool.gif ) Just hope the full size doesnt protrude above the floor.

Thanks all, must admit the leather has been on and off my list several times as i cant quite make my mind up.... was worried the standard seats might not stand up to well to the baby and the dog.... but even though it is cheap saving a few quid is tempting.

The xenon's was largely based on my experiences with the Renaults, where they have been brilliant make driving at night so much more comfortable and less tiring, i think it is as much the type of light (slightly more natural) as much as the extra brightness. But may rethink.

I do like the black but current r26 is black so feel like a change, which bring me down to white, blue or grey... the latter 2 being a slight preference due to the very mucky route to work i take most days... think i would be cleaning the white one every day... certainly black has been hard work

Agree - so did a thorough job of protecting with a bottle of Autoglym Lifeshine upholstery and carpet protector off ebay! Acts like Scotchguard and very easy to apply.
