ABS sensor ring

Featured Replies

Hi, hoping that someone could help me with this 1. Just changed a cvj boot on my 2.5tdi auto, : ( and managed to break the abs sensor ring in the process. is it possible to buy just a replacement ring or will i have to fork out on a complete CV joint?? Was thinking of maybe getting a 2nd hand complete driveshaft off the bay, but only finding VW ones on there in my price range.(which is not much at the moment..) Would i be right in thinking i need a passat B5 or B5.5 one.. Also changed the rear pads and now i'm getting emissions workshop warning. i understand this could be linked to the brakes, or maybe just the green temp sensor in engine bay.. So now my dash is light up like a christmas tree

How on earth did you manage that?

Go to GSF, and get a CV kit @ £32, that includes the joint and boot, and all the other bits, dunno how you managed to break the ring, but you may wanna see if the sensor is fully in on the suspension leg first.

Thanks Superbia. Not sure where you mean "sensor on the suspension leg" the only one i can think of is the one on the hub. If thats it then yes it is in (i.e. flush with the inside of hub). BTW it was my dad that broke the ring. lol. Think he thought it was a clip for the boot, not being an expert and all..

Do you mean the circlip that sits at the narrow end of the boot going towards the engine, or is it the retaining one that holds the CV on inside.

Yeah it is the hub the sensor sits in, make sure it's straight and not simply just pushed back in at any angle, iirc you want the wires to be sitting at the top, hth.

Also the fault codes don't always go straight away, the car needs time to decide that everything is ok, when you did the rear pads you did wind the piston back in, rather than simply push it back didn't you?

I'm sure the actual sensor is fine, its the ring on the cv joint that the sensor reads that got broken. It does look a bit like a circlip and he mistook it for the large clip that holds the CV boot on. Looking around for a new CV joint. will try GSF and Europarts. thanks.... P.s. ye we did wind the pistons back on the rear brakes.

I cant find the CV joint kit you mentioned on the GSF website. Not for the superb anyway, i tried for Passat but there are'nt any for £32. The only one i can find is at £68.50 + vat....

Ring them up, the kit you want is a GSP cv kit, it should be about £32-£35, the £70 one is their OEM version, I used the cheap one and it was fine. hth.

Sorry bud, I haven't, it comes with a neat instruction sheet as well, tells you how to fit it, and let the air out before you crimp the small end shut.

It's sorted now thanks. went down to 'local' GSF (bout 20 miles away) and picked up GSP cv kit for 32.50 Well worth it tho, Bargain. Thanks u saved me a bundle..... Stealer wanted 150 odd plus vat just for their part.

Will get it fitted tomorrow, and hopefully the abs lights will disappear. Just the emmisions workshop problem to sort out now, checked the brake lights working method, all fine. probably check the temp sensor next. Hoping thats it : )

GSF again for the sensor, it's about £15 iirc, make sure it's a light green one they give you, and if the car is running fine now, it will be that, or a hole in the egr pipe, if you find it had chaffed a hole, when you fit a new hose it might take 5-10 minutes for the message to go away.

I got a new sensor, fitted it but still got emissions message. It was the green 4 pin one but it was located at top of engine at the front and all the guides say its on the left under the air box. I guessing the guides are for the PD engine and mines the V6. Will look into EGR pipe next but i think its a bit above my skill level getting to it.. Maybe i'll take it to a garage to hook up to computer and get error code to be sure...

Ahh, I forgot you have a V6, call on Roto, he'll know where and what.
