All should be sorted and working tomorrow once wired in! Its from a mk5 golf and is an auto dimming rear view mirror.

Cool.

Nice idea. I had my eye on doing this, but the next chariot might already have one fitted now anyway

Makes a big difference in other cars I've driven with one fitted - nicely filters out the annoying traffic with cr@p HID kits and the stupidly bright std BMW X5/Range Rover/Cayenne xenons (it's always as if their self levelling is broken??)

Cheers,

Steve

~£50 though..?

Edit: ebay says its gone down now..! :D time for shopping.

I did it on my old 206 and was one of the best mods I did as I do a fair bit of nightime motorway driving. Plus I'm lazy! Lol

@jlneonhug

It cost me £10 posted of the bay.

Bloody bargain! When I last looked all the ones I saw were north of £40 on BIN.

Well played

£10?! wheres that? - still on the hunt on ebay atm. Does it need to be mk5? from the pic it looks like it only needs power..? I like the look of the bmw ones.. :giggle:

Had one of these on my Bora TDI Sport, had car for nearly 5 years, and have really missed auto dimmer since got the vRS.

They are excellent. All you will need should be a power feed to it.

May be able to get one off a Golf MK4?, the Bora's from SE model upwards have them as standard - prob cheaper than MK5 Golf

no reason why it needs to be a mk5 golf one? Im using the existing skoda clip and ball joint as the mk5 bits wont fit, It needs a positive feed (red), an earth (blue) and you cant see in the pic but theres a grey wire thatll be wired into the reverse light to clear the dimming when reverse is selected.

well it turned out to be a little less straight forward than id hoped! The mirror doesnt clip on using the mk5 clip so i thought id use the fabia ball clip from the old mirror.Too small though! :S

So its back to the drawing board i think!

nice idea, hope it work out emoticon-0148-yes.gif

I could be being reaaaaally dense here but: does this just need literally power and an earth to work? Meaning in theory I could run this off a transformer at home? Just trying to clarify that it can be fitted too any car as the mirror has the sensors etc in built.
