warranty/service advice

Featured Replies

Not strictly all to do with Skoda's but here goes;

I've just been quoted a high price for servicing on my current car! It's two years old and still in its warranty period. Generally speaking, if you have the service carried out at an independant dealer, does this invalidate the warranty?

Secondly, a Skoda Octavia is currently top of the list for being my next car - what are the servicing costs like? I'm undecided between the 1.4tsi and 1.6tdi cr.

Thanks a lot.

Any ideas please ?

The waranty is fine as long as the service is carried out as stated by the manufacturer. This was sorted a long time ago in order to prevent the monopoly main dealers had on servicing new cars. Hence you can now get your car serviced elsewhere and the warranty is still valid.

I think the Skoda 3rd year warranty is dealer backed so it might need to be dealer serviced. If your going to be selling it it will go easier if its FMDSH, try and phone around and barter,

If it helps in terms of cost, Ive just sorted the servicing for my 10 plate vRS for the next 2 years at a cost of £299, thats done throught the main dealer.

Not quite anywhere, but provided it is done by a VAT registered garage using OE parts then there is no problem.

Block exemption legislation means that you can get your car serviced at any VAT registered garage without affecting a manufacturers warranty - providing the service is to the manufacturers guidelines and uses OEM parts. Best to find a local specialist in your vehicle and give them a call.

Yes, there are lots of deals around. BMW are currently offering 5 years free servicing, VW are doing 3 years servicing for £250 and I'm sure I've seen someone else offering a 3 year servicing deal for £100 (might have been Volvo iirc). Haggle when you buy the car for a good deal on servicing.
