Coilovers - Weitec

Featured Replies

Been debating whether to go for it for a while now..

£700~ fitted roughly which is a fair chunk of cash. Is it really worth it or should I keep the cash towards next purchase

Thats a lot of money!

the kit is 450 ish and bearings and top mounts are less than 40. you can fit them yourself on the drive. should really get the wishbone bushes done too but again that can be done yourself.

They can be bought and fitted for less than that. As for how good they are - combined with a RARB, it's like a different car.

Yeap, 4hours labour + vat and you have the magic number without the top mounts and bump stops. Hate to think of the cost incl bushes

Not got the gear to DIY and whilst adventurous with a spanner to an extent I am not sure I would be comfortable jacking car up and putting it on axle stands .

Edit - Yeap I already have the arb which made a big difference. After driving my bro's ek4 mine feels a bit floaty :)

Think a couple of people have got coil overs fitted for around £100, remember seeing atleast one post on it

Yep £100 fitted, that will be me! get it done, unit18 will do it for a tone.

This company is currently offering Weitec fitment and 4 wheel alignment for £100 which is pretty amazing.

AmD did mine 2 weeks ago, if you live in the South East I would go there, you won't get it done that cheap anywhere else down this way.

£458 for the coilovers

£35 for a new pair of top mounts and bearings

£100 for the fitting and alignment (which took them almost 5 hours)

£593 total

I would have saved the money and done mine myself but didn't have a coil spring compressor, hub carrier seperator tool or ramps and needed it done quick as it's my daily driver.

If your car has done 80k miles or more on the standard suspension you'll be amazed at how it feels with coilies.

You don't need spring compressors mate. Few £ gets you some new top nuts threaded bush I think its called that holds the top bush and bearing all together. Also a sledge and block of wood works wonders lol

The kit is a very good addition and transforms the car but as mentioned fitting should be a lot less then what you've been quoted.

yup 4 hrs labour for a garage imo is taking the p*ss, it shouldnt take a competent garage that long to do, amd i think normally quote that however they are doing the offer for £100 which is a bargain as it includes alignment.

was that including VAT? £100 for fitting seems great VFM given that you're unlikely to do this job more than once on your car and can be a bit of a pain to do.

Weitech v AP - Is either any better than the other?

My rear shocks/springs creak pretty bad and also look like the shocks are rusting a fair bit on the shaft, so due to be replaced soon.

Yep that price was including VAT.

I honestly don't know how they can be making any kind of profit doing 4 or 5 hours of labour for £100 but I spose word of mouth like this and on other forums gets a hell of a lot of business through the door. Pretty much every Leon Cupra or Cupra R I see around here has had something done by them so they must be raking it in

Not sure if either make is better but AP coilies are a little bit cheaper than Weitecs (only about £30 or so). Weitecs are made by KW but are half the price of the "proper" KW stuff.

If you want a quick go in mine with coilies give me a shout sometime I'm only up the road

ap are the budget brand made by kw weitec are the mid range brand, ap not meant to be as nice a ride from what i read on the golf forums.

They make money as their markup on everything else is so fecking high!!!!

Yeah their remaps cost a fortune!

But parts wise they are selling everything at just the same price everywhere else sells it

Thanks matey. ;)

I was saving some money for a remap, but it's looking more like my £60 is going on the collies in the next few weeks.
