EGR, Throttle Body and Inlet Manifold Cleaning

Featured Replies

Anyone got any pictures for this on the 2.0 TDI or what to watch out for?

I've picked up a gasket for both ends of the EGR and the exhaust inlet pipe, plus a new manifold gasket.

Is the manifold just empty pipes or are there any silly/clever (delete as needed) part in it?

Funny you should post this,i would be interested too,i took off my anti-shudder and egr the other day and my it was frightening how much muck was in there have it a quick clean but really need to get the inlet mani off as it was filthy too, can't be good!

You'll need a new gasket for the inlet manifold.

I have the part number somewhere, but will need to dig it out.

I intend to do the same as i think that might be causing a slight stutter occasionally.

I also have that stutter, around 1800-2000 revs? thats what prompted me to take it all apart! Im not going to bother again until I have a catch can(in the post!) and EGR Reduction Gasket or EGR delete!

Diesel? Throttle Body? Excuse my ignorance but wheres the throttle on a diesel?

Ok well it's not actually a throttle body as such, but a butterfly valve that lives under the EGR to regular air intake.

I have a feeling that if it's all gunked up it might be sticking.

Do you mean the flap below the EGR? thats the Anti-shudder isnt it?

Yes it's the anti-shudder valve.

ok which utter **** put that rearmost long bolt where they did.

Totally impossible to get a socket in there and just doesn't seem to come undone enough to clean it out.

What a right royal pain in the aris.

For that last long bolt you need to pull the rubber inlet pipe out of the way and use a normal L shaped Allen key for it, takes a while as you can't swing it round very far but that how to get it undone

I got to it with a small socket wrench and extension bar, although if you haev one of those screwdrivers that can take allen bits that will work too!

Tried it and it wasn't having any of it.

I'll have to see if I can get anywhere with this.

What a royal pain.

also if you undo the other bolts that I think that lets it move a little to give you more room
