74k Service (cambelt etc)

Featured Replies

I am a few 100 miles away fro my 74k service, I will need the cambelt (& water pump?) doing, as well as the standard service. The car also got an advisory on the rear bushes last year as well, so not sure what to do with them.

Can anyone give me a rough figure as to what I should expect to pay, any recommendations for trustworthy garages around Crawley/Sussex and finally any advise on bringing the price down (supplying my own parts/oil etc?)

In the past I have always lived near a mate's garage/family friend's garage so this is the first independent service i will be having & don't want to get short changed on it.

Bump, can anyone advise? :)

The trouble with supplying your own parts/oil is, the garage who fits them may be arsey if they fail. For example if they fit a cambelt you supplied, and it snaps shortly after fitting, they may blame the part and therefore want to charge you again for labour in fitting another, and therefore won't fix the kaput engine.

Just as an indication from an independent they have quoted me £150 inc VAT for a 40K variable service on my 1.9 TDi, this includes everything using genuine Skoda parts, diesel filter and pollen filter, at the stealer it was more the £245 mark. It's not worth getting your hands dirty.
