PD140 clutch options

Featured Replies

Considering renewing/upgrading before remap time :)

Anyone been down this path? Thinking of a Sachs organic, if a a suitable one's available?

Cheers,

Steve

Unless your going to drive it like you stole it, lug large loads around all the time or go for serious power I think you would be better off keeping your money.

Your only going to be getting around 280-300 lb/ft which the standard clutch will cope with as long as you don't do any of the above :)

Mines has been fine for about two years now with 190hp and 320lbft, I put it down to not driving like a nutter and feeding the power in to 2500rpm ish. See how it goes, you can replace it later

Would still like to know what options I have, in advance of potentially requiring anything :)

Steve,

I did loads of research when I bought my pd140 into clutches before I remapped my car.

I was pointed in the direction of a guy with a pd140 a3 who is now running about 280/300bhp but I can't remember his name. I also found a few people on the mk5 golf forum who had upgraded their clutches as they were intending togo the hybrid turbo route (as I was when mine failed) but most people have had none/very little trouble with the OEM clutch and just a remap.

I would love to get mine remapped and I'm not worried about the clutch in everyday driving but I now tow a caravan and fear the added drag and weight along with a remap would soon finish it off.

Hope your enjoying your new car.

Matthew

Fair enough you want to know your options, There are upgraded clutches available from Sachs and Helix, both will easily take a Remap on your car of any kind.

There are also a few options for Flywheel, some people have got Single Mass Flywheel, which are stronger and perform slightly better as they are lighter, but Dual Mass Flywheel (like you have standard) is appraently the smoother option.

Personally, Im going for a Hybrid very soon (ive got a stage 2 turbo sitting here) but Im going to look at just swapping out the clutch, although it depends on the condition of my flywheel, which feels fine at the moment.

Sadly I wont know what to get until I get the Gearbox off to see which type I need.

I've been told there is a SMF kit that isn't lightened for the PD140, and so won't rattle.

If I can find out who made it then I'd be very much pleased to be rid of the f**king DMF.

We've had success recently with the Helix Autosport clutches they've developed for the Duel Mass flywheel setup. These come in at £560 inc VAT.

To be totally honest though Steve, Don't spend your hard earned until it at least starts showing signs of slippage! :)

AL, that sounds very relevent to my current situation, can you give me all the info please?

Thanks all.

Just noticed a bit of 'slack' in operation really, and had a few instances since I've had it of reverse and 1st being difficult to engage.

Might see if anything needs adjusting. What else might cause this? Release bearing? Could also look at renewing the gearbox oil too.

Cheers,

Steve
