Felicia 1.9 SDI Jerky On Part Thorttle

Featured Replies

Hi Guys, just bought a V reg Felicia for the grandparents for what I'd consider a steal, serviced every 5000 miles etc..

Been sorting some bits and pieces out, like tires, MOT etc. One thing i had noticed when driving it was on very light throttle when cruising or pulling away with little throttle the engine can sometimes feel a little jerky, almost like kangaroo juice..

Has anyone experienced anything like this before? I was going to do a full service and give all the pipes checks for leaks etc..

Cheers

Kev

hi kev, check the vacuum pipes to and from the idle boost actuator solenoid, the actual solenoid is to the right of the brake servo with a grey plug (think it's the one on the right out of the pai of solenoids which are there)

the idle boost system is vacuum operated, there is a small vacuum capsule which pulls on a cable which is attached to the injection pump under the main advance lever/throttle cable. also check that the linkages on the pump aren't stiff

That's what i'd planned to do, when i find the time :)

Cheers for the input.. Appreciated..

i guess you must have checked all the usual stuff already, like fuel filter, etc

the only other thing that springs to mind is possibly a blocked or worn diesel injector

Would these kind of things also apply to a peugeot 1.9 XUD engine? I have the exact same problem.

Phil

which injection pump has it got phil?

I think it's the lucas but I've never fully checked. Could be the Bosch though as it has the little metal protusion at the bottom (think it's something to do with the auto advance) like I have seen in pictures of bosch units.

blank off the egr valve and it will run fine, either by blanking the vac lines or a solid gasket

I have the same problem, i think to egr problem, but i don't understand how to close it, someone has a photo of egr on Felicia 1.9 d?

Just found out it is a Bosch pump Tom. I was confused at first as most of the information is about the turbo models.

It looks like this one (although not as rusty!):

Also I'm sure you will have some idea Tom... is it possible to increase the fuelling on these pump? Want a little more ooomph!

P.s. sorry for the thread hijack I just thought it semi relevant!

I've resolved the problem diconnecting the black pipe on egr actuator and plugging it with a screw.

Very good.

I have disconnected the EGR valve on the pug but the problem was there before that.

A couple of pics of something that could be related.

What is it and what does it do? How to I removed it!? It's broken!

it's not as simple as that on a diesel phil, increasing the pump advance (adding more fuel) will only make the engine run faster, it wont make any more power

looks like some kind of breather, but i'm not 100% familiar with psa engines

Okey doke. Will just stick with a de-cat to gain my 1hp then! :giggle:

Yeh it is connected to the oil filler pipe and has a spring and some sort of diagram inside.

Trip to the motor factors and see if they can work it out!

Thanks for your help though... was worth a go while on the subject.

Phil, your "broken bit" is part of the crankcase breather system. (based on engine being like the one in the non turbo Xantia)

As to tuning it, look in the York phone book for a Turner Tune or Bosch diesel place, or you're not that far from Feather Diesel in Leeds.

Yes it is the same as the one in the Xantia (PSA XUD9).

Cool. Will have a look. What kind of things would they do to the engine to "tune" it? I understand that there can't be that much that can be done besides bigger injectors and turning the fueling up a bit.

Feel like a right bloody thread hog... turned a felly thread into something about a peugeot!

p.s. Peugeot want £30 for a new breather... yeah right!

Plus in doing this you will be stopping all that rubbish from entering the intake!

Blanking the EGR also seemed to fix my jerky issue..
