Coolant Leak somewhere

Featured Replies

As the title says, I've a coolant leak on my '99 1.8 NA octavia. Water pump and belt were done about 20k ago. Just noticed it this morning when the light came on - the level had dropped below the min level but was not completely empty.

I've had a quick nose around to see if there's an obvious leak but didn't see anything - other than some white fluid (dried in) that appears to have sprayed out of a tube with a nozzle on the top which is located at the front of the engine bay and towards the drivers side - is that related to the cooling system?

The oil looks fine (no mayo) and the coolant is a healthy colour so hoping its not the HG.

Any known areas for leaking that I can specifically check? Should I try one of those products for blocking minor leaks? For the moment I've just topped it up. I think its quite a slow leak and there has been no overheating at all.

Thanks in advance!

See the nozzle in that photo? Is that a pressure release valve for the cooling system or what? And could the white substance that appears to have sprayed out be coolant?

That nozzle is the service port for the air con.. It could be aircon oil I guess.

It might even be water spraying up off belt?

Take the plastic engine covers off and check if the temp sensor pipe is not leaking. The temp sensor is held in place with a clip and if that clip gets worn or loose it can leak water. Not a lot but enough over time. You should also see water marks down the right side of engine which will be a clue if it is leaking there.

Just an idea as mine was..
