Is the Sound System with 12 speakers, worth it?

Featured Replies

This is one of the options I would like to select. Does anyone have it? What does it consist of? Being an audiophile, I am inclined to buy everything related to the audio in the car (my wife is convinced that I am buying a Yeti for the Bolero touchscreen radio...) but I am not sure if the Sound System is worth it.

cheers

The sound system does add a few nice features, like the DSP, a separate amplifier, and more/ higher quality speakers. I have it in my Yeti, and i don't think it's worth what it cost. The components the system consists of might be OK, but the doors/door cards etc. resonate and vibrate like it's about to self destruct when you play at any volume if the music you listen to contains ANY bass.

I have removed and tried to insulate/ kill the vibration from all the door cards, but they still play along with the bass in the music and partially destroy the music I listen to.

If you are an audiophile, stay away from Skoda unless you want to build your own serious system. The Sound System is the same in the Superb II and the Octavia II FL.

:S

I demoed the 12 speaker set up extensively before placing my order and I'm very glad I went for it. There's better seperation and more 'drive' and realism to the audio IMO. Mine is driven via the Columbus. I have no rattles or vibrations at all when playing bassy tracks but I have experienced this issue on earlier yetis that I demoed with the 12 speaker setup. Overall, it's an option I would select everytime. :-)

Yes - without question the quality of the sound is one of excellence. I enjoy a variety of music from serious classical to 60s heavy rock - and loads of other stuff. I enjoy it when I see the rear view mirror vibrating so much that I cannot see what vehicle is behind me!

I have found that the clarity and balance of the sound produced is way above anything i have had in any other car (including Audi with Bose installation, VW Touareg, ) and it can be listened to without complaint of screechiness or distortion, with good banging bass - and no rattles or vibrations at all.

The best solution would be to find someone near you with it installed, take along your favourite CD, and have a go - if you can.

In my opinion - well worth the £300 plus. What else would I have spent it on anyway??

Wow!

That was quick! I didn't expect so many replies so soon! I am pleasantly surprised! I have to buy a Yeti just because you guys are so dedicated and helpful.

I see that there are contradictory opinions, about the same thing. But I see that I have at least one advantage, the price of the system in my country is cheaper: 300 Euro.

900000 : thanks for the links, being new on this forum I read almost everything in the Yeti part of the forum, from 03.2010 until now. I haven't read anything before that yet. But I will use the search more.

JonA: Are you maybe using the sound system with the Bolero or the Columbus? I read in the links that 900000 published above, that everybody who reported problems or generally was not happy with this system was using the Bolero.

Everyone using the Columbus in combination with the sound system was happy with it. For example I noticed that FocusZtec is using Columbus.

Freshacre: are you using Columbus as well?

FRESHACRE here again!!

I am using the Bolero. Love it. Fave at the moment is Dire Straits, and The Who, and Organ Symphony in C Minor, and Mahler's 3rd Symphony.

Good luck with your deliberations.

h0rr: I have the Sound System combined with the Columbus headunit/sat-nav. B)

oh I wanted the soundsystem but had to take what was available...I will try to install some better audio one day for sure. But indeed it's all so quiet inside. Love it.

I have the 12 speaker system and would not be without it. The sound is fuller, and it really comes into its own when I use the stereo focus on "driver only" when I'm in the car alone. Don't usually have the volume cranked right up but just tried it. No door panel rattling or sound distortion, but I value my hearing too much to listen that way for long.

Thanks guys for all the info!

I ordered my Yeti today, WITH the sound system (and almost all the options I saw). I couldn't resist. Now starts the long wait.

h0rr,

I waited almost 5 months for mine, and to be honest there were times when I almost threw in the towel. This was in no small part due to the total lack of information and customer concern from my dealer during that time, and one email case of "not my aisle" from SUK. Sometimes it was only this forum that kept me going. Hopefully things may be different for you in Albania.

But now that I have my SM I counldn't be happier, so I know that I was right to wait! I wish you well.

5 months? Oh....

My dealer said 2.5-3 months maximum. But I understand now (after reading a lot in this forum) that by maximum, they really mean minimum.

Either way I can't do much, just wait it out.

P.S.

I noticed you are from Hove. I stayed in Brighton last year for a month. Used to pass through Hove everyday going to Shoreham Airport. Beautiful place, hope to return maybe next spring. Hope to see a lot of SM-s there.

The reasons for delays, as far as I have gathered, are not consistent. Sometmes its sunroof, other times RHD takes longer, and most recently factory flooding. The frustration here comes from lack of factual information. I'd stick with your dealer estimate and keep chasing him.

Haven't yet seen a single Yeti on the road locally since I ordered in February, but I know MacDemon is less than a mile from me and has one on order with delivery due soon.

Mike
