Hello All and more on service intervals

Featured Replies

Hello Everybody, and Merry Christmas to you all. I have enjoyed reading all the posts to the various forums and am now even more pleased that we have two Skodas on the drive. I shouldn't ask, but can my 1.6 Octavia 102bhp be chipped? (I can hear you s******ing)

My Octavia has variable service intervals, which of course means oil change etc after 20,000 miles or two years approx. No matter how good the long life oil is I just can't get my head around leaving it in there for two years when previously I have always changed the oil in the old Passat (traded in for the Oct last year) every 5,000. Honest John of the Telegraph does not speak well of the longer oil change intervals and thinks engines treated in this way will not last long.

As it happens I do about 20,000 in a year so at least the oil change is happening yearly, but what do the experts in Briskoda think about this?

p.s. My son used to be embarrassed by his parents choice of vehicle until he played Colin Macrae on his friends PS2 and the Fabia won every time! So now he's a total fanatic and has that cool black Fabia vRS poster that the firm put out in January on his bedroom wall.

Hello and Welcome Skodarulez.

Merry Christmas.

Welcome to Briskoda, Skodarulez. I believe that whilst Honest John talks a lot of sense, he is nevertheless way behind the times with some of his views - including those on oil change intervals when using Long-Life oils. Such oils are far superior to conventional oils in the way they lubricate and keep the engine clean and I for one have full confidence in them.

Hello and welcome aboard
