Snapped Spring 2.0TDI

Featured Replies

Hi all, Have just replaced my rear pads on a 54 plate Octavia. Have noticed that the nearside rear spring has snapped at the bottom, about 2" from the end. It looks like it is still sat securely in the cup as it is literally the last bit snapped/corroded off.

Have been looking for some replacement springs, but as the car has Pegasus alloys and sports suspension as standard, i'm not sure what to go for?

Do I just get a replacement from Skoda, or go for aftermarket getting a full set of springs and maybe lower a little more. I know it is a little lower as standard. I have read on one site for 2.0 tdi (1Z) lowering springs that they are not suitable for cars with factory fitted sports suspension. So does anyone have any ideas.

Is it an easy job to replace the springs on an octy? I have replaced suspension on Mk1 Golfs and Mk3 escorts a few years ago, but is there anything I need to be aware of with this car? (sig)

Cheers.

Have seen some Jamex Coilovers on ebay for £225 Delivered. Haven't found out much about them by using the search function. Are they an easy enough job to fit? Will I need anything else to fit them? Will I need to get Geometry checked afterwards?

As a side-note - I have just had 4 new tyres and my geometry sorted by Chris Mullins in Gloucester. Fantastic service if you are near Gloucester.

have the Pro Kit on mine, although it does increase the likelyhood of your shocks dying, which is why I now have the Eibach Dampers also.

We had a bulletin on them for the MK5 Golf, apparently they made the little cup that sat under the spring out of an unsuitable metal that had a reaction to the steel spring and caused corrosion. A new plated cup was offered to stop it happening again. Not sure if Skoda had the same issue but something to bear in mind.

I had jamex on a golf a few years ago. On that car it was complete ****ing rubbish..

Daz - how do you find the eibach pro dampers compared to the OE units? I looked at these but could not find any feedaback or reviews on them.. i got weitecs in the end but i'd still be interested to hear what they are like, particularly ref the ride quality (ie are they harder than stock? )

thanks

I doubt i'll go for them then! I remember them being around when I had a Mk1 Golf, and they were cheap then!

Think i'm going to be looking at Eibach or AP from Awesome.
