I am looking to get a mountain bike so I can get fitter, instead of putting the bike into the car I was thinking of getting a rack. Anyone got/had one for their estates?.

We used one off our old Rover 214 hatchback.

With a bit of creative thinking about where to put the hooks, we found it held fine. Managed to drive all the way from Bucks to Dorset with no issues carrying two bikes (with at least one wheel in the boot) and with no need for extra lights or number plates.

Where are you based? If your local don't mind lending it out, or you can check it for size or something.

as these wont fit a vrs i had to buy a roof rack and some cycle carriers, costly but imho better all round, nothing obscuring rear view etc and i can still open the boot

i bought 2nd hand but i seem to remember the roof rack being about 90 sheets new
