Beeping indicator

Featured Replies

Has anybody else had this fault?

Normally when I use the indicators I just get the sound of the relay.

Today, in addition, I get a low level beep like other warning beeps, coming from behing the dashboard in synch with the indicator light but only when indicating a right turn.

Only other clue is that a few weeks ago I had the occasional extra flash when indicating a right turn but this doesn't now happen.

Any ideas?

Could be a faulty hazard light switch,i believe this has the flasher relay built into it.

Yea, there seems to be a common problem with the hazard switch causing all sorts to go mad, try that first

Have you fixed this? If not, I am wondering if you have a factory fit towbar?

Maybe there is some additional loading on the right hand indicator circuit "tricking" the car into thinking it has a trailer attached? I have a 3rd party towbar with a sounder in the boot.

My OEM towbar has the beeper in the boot too. But it is ALOT louder and very piercing compared to the dash warning sounds. Can see where you were going with it, although this particular case does sound as though it's the relay.

Are all the indicator bulbs working on the car? Maybe the beep is to suggest one of right-hand indicators has failed?

Many thanks for all the replies.

First thing I thought of is that it is perhaps a blown bulb indicator but all indicator bulbs work.

I do have a a towbar fitted (which I have not yet used in anger) so perhaps water is getting in at the lighting socket?

The beep seems to come from immediately behind the steering wheel so perhaps there is an after-market towbar fitted (it was on the car when I bought it).

The beep is less in volume than the seatbelt warning tone and about the same volume as the indicator beeper fitted to cars with remote relays that can't be heard.

There is no towing sign lit on the dash.

At the weekend I thought I would squirt some contact cleaner on the indicator switches. I could also wire in some lamps to the towbar socket to see if that brings on the beep.

Any other suggestions guys?

I would imagine an aftermarket towbar will have its relays in the boot - that is where mine are.

Might be worth popping off the towbar socket and checking that:

- it is not full of rain

- all the wires are correct

- done up well

Plug a light board in, and see if it still beeps / beeps more.

My aftermarket towbar does not illuminate an extra lights on the dash and has it own squeaker in the boot, but my car is 2 years old than yours.
