rear screen washer

Featured Replies

On a completely different, for those as untechnical as me, and probably on a trivial point, I had my rear washer pack up a couple of days ago.

I was thinking it must be that detached hidden pipe problem often mentioned. But I thought I'd check for clogs first.

I was delighted at the neat design allowing you not only to get at the nozzle, but to just pull it off - no tools needed except fingers.

I took the (twin hole) nozzle into the house, ran a thin steel wire through both holes, rinsed all the muck out, shoved it back on the car and now have perfect spraying again.

Just have to be careful how you unclip the black plastic cover over the nozzle and the wiper motor shaft, lift back end up then unclip from rest of the arm assembly.

Simples!!

A nicer design would have the nozzles pointed downwards so they don't collect dirt in the first place though. All they need to do is park the wiper at the other side of it's stroke and they'd achieve this without even changing the hardware...

Ahh yes, but then the first pass of the wiper would always be on a dry screen which would be scratchy and bad.

Given my rear wiper does enough wiping on dry windows thanks to automatically wiping when you select reverse, even if it's not raining (Possibly only while the rain sensing wipers are in the on position), that's already happening a lot more often than I use the rear window washer...
