Then afterwards the scans were cleared and only the steering angle sensor repeated itself?

steering is fine however :wonder:

Steering angle sensor is used for ESP and other things too.

Did both of these come up?

00778 - Steering Angle Sensor (G85)

49-00 - No Communications

If they did and not just 00778, then I'd be considering finding out what the correct coding for your car is and having it fixed.

I'd drive it a bit, scan it again after a couple of days then see what comes up and look at how to fix them.

I actually cant remember?

I dont have ESP?

only have ASR but i do not use it... i turn it off everytime i drive

Car is heavily modified?

never had any problems with steering... it drives bob on

Try clearing them and seeing if any pop back right away. I bet most are just intermittent things, probably caused by the voltage blip that brought up the voltage too low fault code. :) Your MAF might be on the way out though.

And just had a thought i also got the egr disabled when i mapped it if that makes a difference?

p.s i have no idea

yeah i got them cleared and the only one that re-occured was the steering angle sensor

the battery used to be low

glowplugs were knackered

MAF was unplugged and turned over

the Control module i believe is aircon (i drilled the aircon condenser by mistake :giggle: )

If the rest don't come back they are not of concern.

Can you find out if you get just the steering or if you get it and the coding errors

If you have the coding then somebody could have coded your car to expect functionality that is not there, hence the error code.

IIRC you only have the steering angle sensor if you have ESP, so if your controller is coded to say you have it but you don't then that would cause the fault to pop up.

Can you please go and see if you have an ASR or ESP button.

i dont have ESP i only have ASR

I have recently had the front console bushes done and the steering wheel sits say 20 degree's off centre....

i believe both codes popped up after the rest were cleared.

maybe i just need the car aligned?

No ESP means you shouldn't have that sensor (I think) so it is essential that you go and check if you have the coding error still.

If you have that error then your car has been coded as if it has ESP and that could explain the other problem.

I would also get the alignment done at the front, but that's more from a tyre wear and car control etc point of view.

yes both codes came up.... the sensor and the coding

Can you read the coding for the Controller and put it up here please.

To me it sounds like the controller is incorrectly coded and expecting a device that may not be there.

After all the error is no communications rather than intermittent or implausible.

Finding out what the coding should be might be a bit of a mission, so you might need to go to a dealer.

If you know anyone else with the same spec car as yours and the same controller part number then you could see what they have stored.

i actually got the car scanned at a briskoda meet...

i dont have vcds at all...

car drives fine and has no warning lights or problems so im not too bothered by it.

if its not broken don't fix it and all that :)

thanks for your help

Oh and the ASR works too

I'm not a mechanic so can't tell you what's what exactly, but if you think it could be a safety related issue, then obviously get it checked out.
