Double din head unit.

Featured Replies

Hi all, tried searching the forums but can't really find what I am looking for, so I thought I would just ask instead :).

I have recently just re-added my Sub, with that I added also added my old Eonon HU. In my Rover it looked fine because of the recessed center console, but in the Skoda it sits out about 1.2cm's and looks kind of ... silly. So I am thinking I want to go for a double din.

So what I am looking for is....

Costs between £100-£200

Looks factory OEM

Has Ipod support

Name doesnt bother me, just as long as it works, but I would like it to have an in-built hard drive to save me taking out my Ipod.

Any advice is appreciated.

If I can dig out the link for my one I'll post it up. It was £209 and was a ying ling wong jobbie from ebay :giggle:

Does bluetooth phone, ipod, DVDs, TV, Mp3s via an SD card (up to 16Gb) or USB stick and GPS (comes with I-Go or you can put TomTom on it).

hi i bought one of these had nothing but trouble with it .

still waiting for it to come back from being repaired.bill

The one I bought cost £179 and came with POLNav GPS, which was crap, and was quickly replaced by a much better version of iGo which I found on the internet <ahem> had installed on an old handheld device.

In order to get it to fit, you need to chop out the plastic bit in the back of the stereo bay (a black plastic 'T' piece). Jamie did his in an hour with a bread knife, I did it in 2 minutes with an industrial razor blade! B)

Good points:

Cheap

Comes with all the bits

Sound is pretty good

Picture quality is good

Lots of options

Bad Points

Not very user friendly

Not easy to navigate

Media Player is very basic (no random option, not sure if it does playlists)

My GPS is slow to find satellites (typically 5 mins or more)

If you turn the ignition off before you turn the stereo off it forgets where you are on the SD card and starts again from the beginning (I'm getting tired of hearing the first 10 bars of Jamiroquai all the bloody time... lol)

If you have a version with WinCE 5.0 on it (most of the new ones will) TomTom will not work

Overall, I'm very pleased with my purchase, and it will be fine for a while, however should I ever have a bit of spare cash lying around, I'd either look into hacking it and putting better software on it, or replacing it with one of those £500 all singing all dancing ones from one of the major manufacturers

I need to look into putting MioPocket on mine at some point, at least that way I could play songs using itunes or Media player instead of the crappy software it

Yep thats the right fitting kit. In fact that appears to be the very same shop in Leytonstone that Cawmere bought the fitting kit from that he used when he fitted mine! :giggle:

You need the Golf kit because the Octavia one is meant for a Mk2 Octavia so the cage has the tabs in the wrong positions and the plastic fascia surround is totally wrong. Even with the Golf one you need to trim a little bit off the top of the fascia surround to get it to fit around the stereo.

I have one of those china units and very happy with it.
