stretched tyres?

Featured Replies

hey all

i've recently sold some old stuff and have enough money for coil overs and new tyres :D i want to keep my standard wheels as there is noting wrong with them and are going to be sprayed black,

i want to go for the stick out look so will be buying spacers and camber kit but really want stretched tyres

i know the size for the standard vrs wheels are 205/45r16

so really i need to know the size of the tyre i will need to get a noticible stretch, i was thinking 195/55r16 if it works

also when i lower my car will i need to change the drop links? i have heard stories on other cars that they have had to by shorter ones

many thanks

simon

07 skoda fabia vrs se :p

standard but not for much longer

185/45/16? But it'll look ****. The idea of stretch is to make wide wheels fit, not narrow alloys look even narrower and have no tread on the road.

Depends how low you go as to whether you'll need drop links. If you plan on going low you'll need it or you'll get bad noises and wont have a drive shaft for long ;)

thats very true, just want a nice stance

Your never going to get 'stance' with 16" 6.5j alloys. If i was you id seriously think about getting some wider alloys.

To make the standard wheels help you to achive a decent stance i would think you'd need 25/30mm spacers on the rear, 185/45/16 tires and lowered more that coilovers go to..

Reasons for not doing stretch:-

1) It looks pants, even if you do do something like fitting 195s on 9" rims.

2) The over-stressed tyre walls are easy to cut or bruise.

3) You can easily pull a rim clear off the bead if you drive "enthusiastically".

4) You lose any protection the tyre would otherwise give to the rim if you kerb it or hit a pothole.

Stick with just the coilovers and spacers, and enjoy a better car.

thats very true, i like rims being undamaged, spacers and coilovers it is :)

not gonna start an arguement on this but i disagree with most of the above.

runing 8J wide wheels wrapped in 205/45 tyres, having been on track a few times and driven on its limit i have had no issues with my tyres breaking off-bead, nor have i damaged my wheels in anyway.

i will add i have been running my tyres like that for 2 years now and the car has been subject to almost every condition faced in driving.

KTP - you did right not to argue. If you have never ran stretch then its only an opinion. If you bepieve the wheel will fall of and the car will roll over then dont do anything yiu dont want ;-)

:giggle: theres stretched and stretched

if you peek on http://www.tyrestretch.com/index.php

you see cool , daft, and im sure dodgy

im about to put 215s on a 8j set of rims and the falken got back with me with a table of what goes

Stretch can look worse wih smaller profile too. My mate has 225/30/20 stretched onto a 10j. It looks stupid, beacuse the profile is tiny.

thats gotta b a fair stretch too hasnt it? :giggle:

onward to tyrestretch.com lol i gotta see

yes! odd .. found a 225 35 on a 10 :p bit much - i got 225/30/20s on 8s

205/40s on 8s i like tho

i shall soon talking my brother round too :giggle: or 195s :smirk:

.....Anyway si mate, if you hunt around on that tyre stretch. you should be able to get an idea on what your after :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:
