VRS OR ELEGANCE?

Hi i am viewing octavia estates and i am torn between the elegance (good all rounder i feel ) and the VRS( marvalous bit of kit!!!) but iam wondering what the fuel economy is like on either ???? the both engines i like being 2.0 diesel wondered what they reach on mpg rather ask owners than trust sales info ?

My old PD VRS used to average around 43mpg for my trip to work (10 miles on a mix of roads). On a long run I would see around 50mpg and the most I ever got was 55mpg. The PD140 is a little better than this but no where near as much fun to drive!!!!!

i have a PD VRS which i see 40mpg i have never seen +45mpg even on a long run, my step mum has a a4 140bhp and she has 51mpg on the trip computer atm but like PSM says no where near as good to drive it just feel flat compaired to my VRS

i think the mileage differance maybe about +5mpg in favour of the elegance, lets think about that for a second, an..... extra..... 5mpg......... whoppee.......it's not even worth thinking about....... think of the superior car and imense fun you could have in the vrs.......decision made :thumbup:

my dad has a 2008 octavia vrs pd170, he makes a 40 mil trip to work each morning and he averages 55-58 mpg

Depends what you mean by superior! Personally I thought the ride was far too firm to even make it a sensible choice for a family estate car, Plus I personally prefer the likes of rear parkinf sensors, rain sensing wipers, auto dimming rear mirroe and a variable boot floor more appealing and usefull than some branded chrome slapped around the car.

I wouldn't dispute that the elegance has a smoother ride but I have had no complaints from passengers in my VRS . . . and those options are available at extra cost of course

although my 140 Elegance, eats VRS diesels (standard ones!) for breakfast! and I have no DPF to worry about. horses for courses really, the Elegance is going to be cheaper and easier to run, the VRS sportier but more expensive, both can be mapped also.

The elegance is more comfortable, it's more of a distance car, the seats aren't the cosseting bucket type.

Whilst the vRS is a superb bit of kit (not disputing that at all), it has things against namely fuel, it guzzles the petrol whilst it maybe more frugal with the diesel then you have the DPF to think about & keeping that in order, the other is insurance you should check what it would cost to insure it where you live before you buy.

The 1,8TSi isn't brilliant with fuel either, but I suspect it's not quite the guzzler that the vRS is, the insurance is considerably lower than the vRS too, the elegance you can kit out with more toys too if you want to, but be careful doing so otherwise you could find yourself paying L&K money for it!

Simple. Either is good. Elegance is well equipped, my vRS in CR mode is economical when I want it to be. For me, it comes down to the best deal £ wise. I've had both.

I've just checked the latest brochure and you're right - all the diesels have a DPF. So this will put off many potential owners who tend to make a lot of short journeys.

The 1,8TSi isn't brilliant with fuel either, but I suspect it's not quite the guzzler that the vRS is.

Getting low 40's on a regular basis on the longer runs at 65-70 m.p.h (1.8TSi petrol hatch using 95 ron). Only do 7K a year so wouldn't have a diesel.
