Taking out stereo

Featured Replies

I am going to attempt to remove the original stereo and replace it. Any handy hints and tips that might assist me in doing this or am I doomed to spend the whole day trying to figure it out???

if you still have the original factory radio in there you should be able to just use normal ISO radio keys to remove the stereo, they aren't glued in or anything stupid like that like you get on fords..

however they can sometimes be quite tricky to get out, you just need to wiggle it a bit... it always makes me laugh and think that a hooded twoccer could get it out in seconds with just a screwdriver but with the proper tools it takes ages :giggle:

Cheers...let's just hope it goes smoothly, will keep you posted!!

the only other thing to be aware of is that becuase of a quirk of the wiring in a felicia, the radio will not turn off when you remove the key from the ignition switch. so you have to remember to turn it off manually each time.... other than that it's simply plug and play job with the connectors that are in there

Aahhh I wondered why the fitted one didn't turn off automatically...I wonder how many times I will get up to a flat battery??!!

All sorted but I just can't get used to the rather tinny sound...oh and have nearly kiiled myself by forgetting that I need MORE TIME to pull out of junctions!!

yeah that's a fairly common fault on a felicia, it's easy to adjust though, you just need to use more pressure on the right hand pedal to decrease the amount of time taken at junctions

The stereo can be re-wired to turn off automatically on ignition, but if you remember to turn off/remove the face you should be ok battery wise.

What did you drive before? The felicia 1.3 isn't bad at pulling away from junctions (I'd bet even wheel spin is possible), but never tried the 1.9d.

To change the door speakers, if it's the same as the Favorit they're screwed into the back of the door card, so it's just a case of removing the door cards.

Lol. A little forward thought is also good, try to get a glance at the roundabout while driving towards it to decide whether you do need to brake to slow/stop or you can just boot it. Make sure not to drive into anything in front of you also at the same time :) If you're already moving it's easier to get upto speed faster.

I will take all those handy hints into consideration...not sure about sorting the cd wiring out though...and I really want rear speakers etc...never happy with my lot!

As for acceleration, I think that will take quite a while to get used to...have been driving a gorgeous MX-3 1.8 V6 for the past 2 years, was completed gutted to let her go but financial pressures, along with having to do loads more driving with my job put pay to be able to afford to keep her on the road :(

That said, I do love the 'new' car, she's pretty quirky and feels like an 'old' car to drive...she was also a bit of a bargain...I'm not one for going for the usual car that everyone else wants or has :)

Oh, I just noticed that we live in the same area...so helllooooooo!!! lol

Even easier: on the Felicia, they're screwed to the door pocket moulding - no need to remove the door cards, just prize off the grilles and unscrew the speakers from the front.

As for wheelspin pulling away, I've managed to provoke it from my 1.6 upon changing up into 2nd, let alone initially :D I suspect, though, that's as much to do with the cheap Chinese tyres as the stupidly low gearing (why oh why is the 1.6 apparently geared lower than the 1.3 when it has plenty more torque?)

So you can take short-cuts across fields? :giggle:

that's an easy one, they are already wired up for rear speakers.. if you need it i've got pics to shows where the wires are

That would be excellent, thanks :)

at the bottom of the A pillar is a triangular plastic panel (in front of the front doors) the brown connectors are for the rear speakers, they are wired from here to the back of the radio so it saves you a having to feed wires through the dashboard to the radio, you could just splice into these wires, the white ones are for the front door speakers

Jeez, why do these things have to be so complicated???

Thank you! :)

Another point perhaps worth making - Felicia estates have factory rear speakers, so if you can find one in a scrapyard you could pinch the necessary wiring ready-made. It's easy to get at under the plastic sill cover (the bit you have to lift up at the front to unscrew the panel Tom mentions above)

Excellent...that's for that! :)

yes that would be the method i would suggest too, using the wire/plugs from an estate model.... although on the left hand side of the car you will need to seperate the speaker wires from the rest of the loom becuase they will all be taped together as one unitary loom, but that is easy to do to be honest, just take a pair of wire cutters with you when you go to fetch them from a scrapyard

Now ,you should have driven a Sierra 1.6 -my present Furby 1.4TDi is a rocket compared to that, and even the1.3 is only slightly less power than the Furby .
