Wheel nut corrosion

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just a quick question...

I have noticed on my car that the wheel nut covers, usually a dark grey colour, have started to get this strange white oxidation all over them :'(

I don't use acid/base wheel cleaners, just soap and water as I clean the car regularly.

I would have a case for a claim for a new set surely??

Many thanks.

Strange. If they are the same as mine then made from plastic. I lost one and I think a full set was under £10 from ebay. If you want to pursue the warranty for that sum though.......

My originals have not changed colour despite being washed by the local Russian mob every few weeks.

I've heard of this problem before . Don't know if it's a reaction to cleaning agents or just a problem with the U.V. resistance of the coating on the plastic or the plastic itself. A lot of coated plastic parts change colour when subjected to U.V. from bright sunlight.

It's still £10 better off in my pocket ;)

Haha seems strange, I've only ever washed the car myself!

What happens when you pull them off and wash them?

Just to let everyone know, I took my car to the dealer yesterday with this problem.

All they did was take one look at the car and said "that's no problem, sorry about that, we will order you a new set".

Hats off to my dealer :rofl:

Well done. My feeling is I've not got the spare time to take the car to the dealer unless there is a serious problem.

Those trivial little problems need sorting out NOW! emoticon-0103-cool.gif

Have this on mine. Might raise it at the next service now!

Definately do!

Replacements are dirt cheap!

I was told its the acidic wheel cleaners that cause the white splodges...
