Replacing the boot lid

Featured Replies

Evening,

Wonder if anyone can help....

I have managed to dent the boot lid on my Skoda Superb - the local dent remover (who I've used before and would recommend to anyone - "Dave the Dent" in Tamworth) is coming to have a look, but I fear it is too far gone.

I think I might end up sourcing a replacement boot lid from a breaker and having it resprayed, then fit it too my car.

Has anyone ever taken the boot lid from their car? Is there a decent guide anywhere?

Does this sound like a sensible plan?

Many thanks

Matthew

I've never done it but the job looks absolutely straightforward. The ball ends of the gas struts are retained with lever-off clips and the hinges are screwed to the lid. Expect to have to adjust the alignment. There is wiring to the boot lid - there will probably be a connector in the lid cavity. To remove the trim, there are screws in the "hand holds" and in the triangle aperture. There are also stiff and rusty (apply grease) clips around the edge of the trim.

Oil the pivot for the cable lever at the latch end - mine was too stiff to operate reliably and one drop of oil fixed it for good.

Annoyingly, the Superb boot lid is slightly different from the Passat's. Hope you find one the right colour.
