TPM Randomly Trips it's Alarm

Featured Replies

My Tyre Pressure Monitor randomly trips an alarm once every 1.5 months or so.

First time it happened unexpectedly, the car had been sat for ~10 days (airport car park). 2nd time, same situation, same length of time, same occurrence.

Ok so i put it down to maybe the rubber settles over 10 days and the wheels may settle at different speeds depending which is in sunlight most or something like that, and i thought no more about it (other than to pack a wee tyre pressure gauge before my 2nd holiday).

Fine until yesterday, car has been in daily use for ~1.5 months, driving for ~25 mins and BONG... tyre pressure alert. Pulled over, turned off the ignition, on again, reset the warning. Drove on, no occurrence again.

Anybody else getting these over sensitive false alarms?

Back when i first got the car, i was fiddling with tyre pressures, i had changed the back vs the front by quite a bit and it took ~5 miles to notice!

its air gradually seeping out, IIRC they bong once they detect a difference of around 3-5 psi. just be sure you dont have a slow puncture..

Hi,

my dad had a similar thing with his Superb II, every so many weeks the TPM would go off. Took it in the a tyre place who found nothing wrong other than advising to replace his front tyres as they were at 2mm which he had done and a top up of air on the rear tyres.

TPM went off again so he came for a visit I had a real good look over the tyres etc. In one of the rear tyres I found a very small nail almost tack size which was just passing a little air if you pressed a screwdriver blade against it.

Been fine since having this repaired.

Haha, i have to hang my head in shame

Just after i made this thread i decided to go out and have a good proper look. There's not much pressure difference between any of them (all within 3 psi of each other).

But.......................................

There's a very thin, headless, nail hidden in the front nearside tyre :(

Trip to kwik fit in the morning...

I've had the same issue finding a nail as thin as a bit of welding wire in the tire.

Remember to reset the TPM each time you check the tires.
