What's included with Koni FSD kits?

Featured Replies

Having bought Koni dampers in the past and found that nothing else was included, much to the consternation of the garage doing the fitting, I was wondering what is included in the FSD kit. I'm particularly interested in 2100-4019 for fitting to an estate, but I'd be interested to hear about other kits in case there is some variation.

What do you expect to be in the kit?

Koni like most kit's will just have the shocks, that is it. Some kits do come with springs and shocks but that would be stated on the advert.

If a garage expects more, then i think a bit foolish certainly if they have experience in supplying and fitting suspension. In most cases that is all that is needed as most parts will be reused from your standard suspension, like top mounts, bearings and nuts , bolts, bump stops and springs etc. Certainly the case for FSD's as they are designed to work with standard springs.

As most folks will only expect to change suspension once in the life time of owning the car it would make economical sense to replace those other parts with new though including drop links.

Having fitted FSD's to mine a few years back that is what i did. There is a thread on here with all the parts listed if needed i can find it.

I would expect either that dust covers, some nuts if one end is threaded, and maybe bump stops would be included, else information that a fitting kit is available that includes these items.

For comparison Bilstein's fitment guide includes part numbers for the dampers and part numbers for fitting kits. In case the link doesn't work, the B4 parts are VNE-4574 for a single front damper, BNE-6863 for a single rear damper, ASP-A345 for the front fitting kit which appears to contain two dust covers and two bump stops, and ASP-B575 for the rear fitting kit similarly. The photo for the front damper shows it includes a top fixing nut.

For Bilstein's B6 kit there is similar information, where applicable. One difference is that the front monotube damper doesn't require a fitting kit because it already includes a nut and a dust cover.

I hadn't been able to find any such equivalent information for Koni FSD dampers, except that some people mentioned dust covers for the front dampers only, but others did not.

If a garage expects more, then i think a bit foolish certainly if they have experience in supplying and fitting suspension.

In the particular case the garage expected more because the nuts on the existing dampers didn't fit the thread of the replacement Koni Sport dampers, and the dust covers on the original dampers didn't fit over the wider body of the Koni dampers.

Hence my question.

I know they're not koni, but when i got spax and kyb in the past they came with only nuts on the top mounts on the front nothing else

Actually i take that back, They did come with a 22mm nylon nut. for the very reason you mentioned. Because Koni do have slightly different thread size

And reading back my post sounds a little brash now ,but was not intended that way, so sorry for that buddy.

however i did reuse the dust caps and bump stop ok.

Thanks for that - since the existing dust caps fit I've nothing more to worry about ;-)
