Cold Starts and Knocking

Featured Replies

Bought my Octy vRS just over a week ago, and it seems to have developed a couple of problems.

As previously mentioned, theres a creak/knock from the front passenger side. The creak is as you go over bumps, but the knock is constant on uneven road. I have already jacked it up and had a gander underneath and couldn't see anything obvious like perished rubbers or loose components. I then took it to a local garage and they also had a drive in it and a look underneath but could also find nothing. All they mentioned was the rear rubber bush on the passenger side was soft but no excessive play and a bit of play on the drivers side droplinks but nothing to worry about. They just advised to "let it get worse" but its really bugging me! On top of this, when turning right at higher speeds (more than 15/20mph), theres a weird noise coming from the passenger side... its a sortve repeating knock.

Any ideas?

Andddddddddddddd when the engine is cold, its a bit hesitant, it sometimes kangaroos slightly in 1st and 2nd gear but is fine once upto temperature. What could this be?

Mine was doing this. I cleaned the throttle body & it's miles better now.

For the knocking sound, have the garage checked the top swivels?

For the poor cold running, fire it up and wait a minute for the secondary air pump to shut off. If it sounds tappety, it's a hydraulic tappet engine, and an oil change will clear it up. Otherwise, yes, throttle body clean time.

Raise that corner and check the spring with your fingers, sometimes they can crack near the top and it's only a hairline crack so not easily visible (although would assume a garage would pick that up) or as Ken suggested the top mount bearings may have gone on that side, mine went on the nearside and were causing a "clonging" noise because the spring was rotating in its cup.
