A few questions

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

If all goes well, I could order a Vrs next month! Been savin up for flamin ages!

Just a few quick questions for u guys first tho.

After talkin to a mate, he reckons esp is a must because of the safety aspects and also if im considerin gettin it chipped, which I am eventually. Would you guys agree with this?

Also, I've heard the standard head unit and speakers you get are pretty crap with it, have any of you encountered any problems upgrading head units and speakers?

The standard wheels you get with the car are 16/45/205's arn't they? Just cos I'd wanna go to 225's if possible.

Thanks for your time :)

225s would be tricky. rubbing issues etc.

I thought you were someone else when you posted too... :D We have a regular "Neo VR" too.

Standard system isn't too bad, but is always worth uprating. ;) :speaker:

I've never driven a car with ESP but our vRS is a nightmare in the wet - anything that aids traction has to be a good thing. Yes get it...

Standard stereo is a lot better than you think - I was pleasantly surprised.

Tyre wise - I reckon you'd be better lowering the car and getting some uprated dampers if you want better handling/grip.

When you get it, take it steady for the first few weeks - they are VERY flighty in the wet...but I am used to the Scoob, so maybe it's just me :D

I thought it was Neo VR to!

Dont think ESP is a must, plenty of people are without it and the car will be fine chipped, take Ross Clarkes for example 200bhp and he doesnt have esp.

ESP has been discussed quite a bit in the past, have a search and u'll see.

The standard stereo is actually quite good and does the job pretty well, to put it this way its good enough to tide me over till I strip it out and have a completly new setup :)

Thanks for replies guys.

Ye me an Neo_Vr hav met breifly on here b4 hehe :P

I'd have to wait a few months to get new stereo anyways so its good to kno it will do the job till then!

I think I'll get esp, just to keep me on the road when its wet! I might have to sacrifice xenons for it tho, wot u guys think?

Are you sayin 225's won't fit then?

Thanks

I think esp is more a safety feature than anything. Ive had no problems keeping mine on the road in the wet :)

As for xenons, I was going to but didnt in the end, the standard lights are pretty good IMO

After much research, and a limited budget, I went for ESP instead of Xenons and am very pleased with what I have ended up with. ESP keeps the car nice and stable, my experiences so far have just been on an icy road. I'll get some Silverstars, and Rally 100W bulbs for the standard headlamps and I reckon I'll have a good compromise in the lighting department  Probably not quite as good as Xenons, but one hell of a lot cheaper. Go for ESP, in 2-3 years time this will be standard on all cars as the public will expect it, rather like they expect AirCon on a small car today.

If you get esp, do they just add a button on the dash so you can turn it on or off?

Are there any other changes to the car that are visible if you get esp?

You just get an "ESP" labelled button on the dash. ESP appears to be on all of the time, if you switch it off via the button, then a permanent orange coloured symbol is displayed on the speedo dial. If ESP is switched on, and you experience traction problems, then the speedo symbol flashes on and off! I reckon it's OK.......

Thanks for that link aixlad, I think thats made my mind up. Sod the xenons, get the esp an spend the

I think you've made the right decision.

And I think you would struggle with 225 section tyres on the std rims, they aint really wide enough, plus they would look quite silly.

I've gone up to 17" wheels but kept the 205 section, handling wise grip is just fine, everything is nice and predictable.
