KO4 conversion questions

Featured Replies

I am considering going the KO4 route and the end of the year when funds might allow.

Putting aside all the previous debate about whether it is worth the money to gain 30bhp and a bit of torque over a Stage 2+, I am curious as to how well the TFSI engine copes with the increased power. I believe the S3 and ED30 have strengthened engine components such that they are not just TFSI engine blocks with a different turbo.

iirc Harry ended up dropping an ED30 engine in their after a bunch of problems with the TFSI

What problems have been experienced? Bent rods? Knackered pistons? Early clutch failures?...and do folks still think it was worth the money?

[si - did you ever put the S3 cams on?]

I think Harry's munched a ring, but apart from that the others have been fine.

Especially Simon as his was the first and the last time I saw him had done quite a few hard miles. ;)

si was covering a 1000miles or so a week in his, and it ran very well. you dont have to have the settings to the maximum, you could have it set quite consrvatively if you want longevity of engine life

Yes, I was keen to talk to hear from Si as he covers a lot of miles like me and I suspect a similar driving style.

I've got 50k miles on my car now but the cost of a KO4, injectors, fitting etc. also goes a long way as a down-payment on a TSI. However, this car is a bunch of fun and has never caused me hassle so I wouldn't want a KO4 to change that. I'd love to keep it until 100+k and when the wheels fall off :smirk:

I don't think he would appreciate you spreading that around!
