Uprated Suspension without changing ride height

Featured Replies

You might agree with me, even without lowering the Octavia 1U rs, certain speed humps can be murder.

I feel the car could do with a more progressive setup, and lowering a little at the rear (it's an estate), but do not want to lower the front at all if possible

Does anybody have suggestions? Weitec coilovers are my preference but...

KW do a hydraulic suspension suspension, but their site won't load on my pooter

Thanks

Just get the Weitecs and set them at standard height. Mine are only a smidge below standard, and the difference in handling was massive. Never have problems with speed bumps either. Well, I used to scrape my front flaps on the harsh rubber bumps in NCP carparks, but I've since de-flapped the car and have no issues.

As mentioned the Weitecs are a very good option and just set them to standard height and you won't have any problems.

Damian @ DPM Performance

Give AmD a call about Weitecs as they are doing supply and fitting for £600+VAT at the moment. They won't be doing it at that price forever.

I'll pop over sometime and you can have a go in mine with the Weitecs and RARB.

how much!!! :o

It is a lot of money, but if you bought a standard set of springs you could be looking at c£170 for a set, then you have to fit them.

Shocks will set you back c £160 and top mounts another £40-50, so c £400 all in, without fitting and balancing.

So £600 for Weitech coilovers, fitted and balanced really is a great deal. Twas hard on my wallet though. Bang goes the remap i had hoped for. :'(

suspension is more important than remap imo, what the point of power afterall if the car cant handle properly.

Though jamie said £600 plus vat which would be over £700 quid all in...?

top mounts should be replaced which ever kit you fit so that cost doesnt change and should be added to the weitec price too.

ok, I see, so you can keep OEM ride height yet enjoy a better suspension. I was misinformed then?

@Damian; is that the Weitec Hicon GT Coilover Suspension Kit for Octavia 1U 1.4, 1.6, RS 1.8T, 1.9SDi, 1.9TDi, 2.0 FWD 01/97 at £458.70 inc. VAT (is that for the price for the 4 corners?)

and are we saying Front Axle Weight: Up to 1000kg & Rear Axle Weight: Up to 1000kg ok for an estate?

@Oet; top mounts? Powerflex? Part number? Help?

thanks all!

Had mine done by AMD including top mounts £613 incl VAT. Maybe they made an error, but this was an all inclusive price.

g-slave, just use standard top mounts, i buy from avs http://www.vwspares.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=120, you need 2x front and 2x rears as found on their site.

I might be selling my weitecs soon, let me know if you are interested.

Sorry my mistake it was £613 including VAT not exc VAT.

The parts were something like £470-480 for the Weitecs

plus £100 labour and £33 for a new set of top mounts, bearings and nuts.

£100 labour is ridiculously cheap though for 4 hours work fitting them and aligning the wheels.

It is a lot of money, but if you bought a standard set of springs you could be looking at c£170 for a set, then you have to fit them.

You should be so lucky! The front springs are £80 each from Skoda!! A full set-up of standard springs/dampers will set you back way more that some decent coilovers.

Standard, as in not coilovers or uprated (as opposed to from Skoda). You can get a set of springs on Eurocarparts for c £170. Of course Skoda will want to charge you more.

So what is people’s preference the kw or the weitec?

Edited by skud vrs

well weitec are made by kw, so they should be up to kw standards....which is generally pretty damn good.

Kw offer more adjustability with their more advanced coilovers offering rebound and bump adjustability,

the kw coilovers also come with stainless body struts (if you pay for it) and will last longer for this reason.

I have had v2s on my golf for years, and am just about to put some v2s on instead of my weitec coilovers on my vrs.

The weitecs are very good, i just want further adjustability.

Looks like its worth spending the extra few quid on kw then, if people are taking the weitecs off to change for kw?

i dont think people are, just me as i got the kw off another member for a price i couldnt refuse and i will be doing all the work.

Otherwise it wouldnt be worth it.

Saying that the kw price is not that far off a grand new.

Is there any adjustment in the weitecs other than ride hight

gt's no, just height,

tx's yes dampening too
