I have disconnected (blocked) the pipe to the EGR valve to stop it working. I am going in for an MOT today - big question is will it fail its MOT on the fact that the Check Engine Light being illuminated? :S

Pass no problem

If not, plug the pipe back and light should go off.

I cleared it with VCDS sat outside the garage and it stayed off for the duration of the test.

When i took mine for an MOT i said i have engine management light on, its because the EGR system isn't there any more. He didn't say anything, just took the car and said no problems.
