Sport suspension

Featured Replies

Does the sports suspension kit involve dampers & springs or just springs?

I ask as my car failed its MOT today due to Nearside & offside front shock absorber has a serious fluid leak [2.7.3]

Looking on the parts listing for my Reg no. at Euro Car Parts shows a Bilstein damper for my car but also shows it will other models including the 4x4

Bilstein Shock Absorber (Front)

Part Number: 625444395

It seems a little odd to me that the damper will fit all the models unless the only difference between them is the springs

So the question is, Do all models of the Octavia use the same dampers but just use different springs?

Quite possible, not all, but maybe several models use the same damper..

Your posting about the bilstein damper though, rather than a skoda damper - maybe bilstein have one damper with sufficient range to cover more than one skoda model?

Maybe a quick trip into your friendly dealer parts dept and check out what they list for your car? Its a good idea also to check the OE part price before searching for aftermarket, although the B4' bilsteins are usually very keenly priced as a direct OE replacement.

The MOT was done @ a Skoda main dealer and they quoted £350 to supply and fit although it would take them around 1 week to get the dampers into stock, so I'm guessing they will be around £100/£120 each.

Through eurocarparts I have a choice of Sachs or Bilstein

OE dampers on the vrs are made by monroe.

Sachs or Bilstein both have excellent reputation.

I had understood the 'Sports' suspension to just include a spring change.

As said, if I were forced to change the dampers and wanted to maintain an OEM ride, I'd look at Bilsteins.

I've ordered the Bilsteins  hopefully there won't be any adverse affect from changing from OEM to Bilstein whilst keeping the rears OEM.

I am concerned how quickly the fronts have deteriorated, I changed the cambelt just over 3,000miles ago and the car was given a full check ready for the holiday season and there were NO leaking dampers so they have gone from NO leaks to MOT failure in 1 month :'(

Not ideal having non-matched dampers, but it should be OK yes.

Strange about the checking, but these things can happen.
