Pulling To The Left

Featured Replies

My little Fabia pulls to the left if I let go of the steering wheel. Recently had the bearings checked out and they're fine. Checked and topped up the tyres at the weekend and that made no difference.

Any ideas what could be causing it?

camber of the road? you ideally need to test in a middle lane of three lane motorway as all roads camber to the left, but silly question why would you let go of the steering wheel lol?, if theres no extra wear showing on your tyres and it drives striaght when holding the wheel whats the problem

Have the tracking checked. Could be that it needs to be adjusted after a bump into a kerb or something. If this happened recently you won't see any signs of extra/uneven tyre wear yet, but before long you will - including having to pay for new tyres.

SwedishSkoda may be right, but to some extent they're all like that (RHD). It's a safety measure to take you away from oncoming traffic if you go to sleep at the wheel.

The wheel alignment was checked by the Skoda dealer last month after the rear tyre was feathering, would this not involve the tracking?

Lol you are joking I hope!

Yes. In fact, the problem may be that the tracking is all they checked, and the issue is elsewhere, for example like a bent rear beam or mis-aligned rear thrust axis,.

Not as such. I don't know how strongly your car is pulling, but there is a designed in geometric tendancy to move left about 1 foot per hundred yards travelled for reasons already stated.

My Fabia VRS has always pulled to the left since new, I've learnt to put up with it. However, 3d laser alignment and geometry check and making sure tyres are inflated to the correct pressure is a starter to put your mind at rest. Mine is also ok when holding steering straight so I'm not too bothered. If your alignment is out however, the wear that may occur on your tyres might cause a veer even after the alignment is corrected, my advice would be alignment when you get new tyres.

It's fine when driving, only concerned if something was badly wrong. Tyre wear seems even all round, like you suggested I will wait until I replace the tyres and get the alignment re-checked.

Thanks for everyone's input ;)

SWMBO's used to do this, however it was solved by having the front subframe undone and aligning the subframe! Then proper four wheel laser alignment! Never did it again. The guy I used said the Fabia front end was very similar to early A3's and he'd done this to them loads of times & couldn't see why the Fabia wouldn't work the same!

Dealer was amazed as they has told me it was "a feature" & couldn't be altered!

One of the most expensive alignments I'd ever paid for, but probably saved us a fortune in the long run!
