Where can I claim my commission?

The Wife and I were in Sainsbury's earlier and as we were loading up the car a chap came over and asked if we could spare a few minutes.

I'm thinking 'what's he trying to sell?!'

He then starts asking us about the Yeti! He saw us pull into the car park and waited in his car for us to return while his wife was off shopping! That's never happened to me before with any car I've ever owned! I gave him the full guided tour and left him in know doubt just how good they are!

He'd been to his local Skoda dealer - but they weren't very helpful to say the least - but we had the say experience with them when we were looking at our three nearest dealers.

Awh. I love that! How many cars can get that sort of response from strangers!

I nearly followed an owner home from the supermarket to ask about their SM, but decided that might be abit ott. I hope I'm not turning into a Yeti stalker lol!!!

I suppose if you sent him to James at Allams, there might be a fuzzy Yeti in it :giggle:

You'd at least know he'd be well treated.

I was in a Lidl carpark, a few weeks ago, waiting for the missus to get a few drinksand snacks for our day out in Cragside Northumberland (with the kids and dogs), when my local councillor walked over and was asking about the monster.

He was thinking about trading in his aging RAV4, and quite fancied another diesel SUV but with better fuel economy.

He seemed very impressed by the choices of engine and trim and said he would drive to Silbury Skoda and see if they had a Yeti demonstator in ( which they do) :)

We've never had a car that had drawn so much attention. People are simply intrigued. A chap in the Lakes, a Octavia Scout owner, spent 30 minutes asking me questions etc.....

We love ours so don't mind at all. So much so, in addition to my wife's 1.2TSI SE SM we've just ordered a 1.2TSI DSG Eleg for me!

Amongst my motorsport colleagues, the amount of attention the Yeti gets from folk generates a fair amount of leg pulling. It seems to be expected now that someone is going to ask to have a close look at it at some point during the day. You see, my SM doubles as safety car on Aintree Motor Racing Circuit, transports our outdoor displays to shows and acts as general workhorse when setting up rallies.

I could have sold half a dozen Yetis at the Cholmondeley Pageant of Power in July - and for most of the time it was only parked in the exhibitor's car park (albeit very close to our stand).

Same story at the Gold Cup meerting at Oulton Park in August. I hadn't even finished driving up to our display site when I was stopped by people wanting to know about the car. It was so easy to demonstrate her abilities as I resumed up the soggy grass slope with 750kg trailer in tow, not a hint of wheel slip! The Yeti was parked next to our display of competition cars and was generating a fair amount of interest there too.

Back at Aintree, with light bar on the roof, the car still continues to attract attention from competitors & spectators; I'd have thought the novelty would be wearing off by now as the SM has been at every car event since April.

My next event at Aintree is 2nd October, my colleagues are already taking bets how many people are going to ask about the car!

Speedsport: and where is the pictures of the Yeti with a trailer? Yeti with a lightbar? Please share!

So far I've not got many photos, but I'll put that right on Saturday.

In the meantime (if this works) heres a photo of my SM at the recent Greenpower Electric Car Races for Schools event that I hosted at Aintree a couple of weeks ago. On that occasion i was also acting as recovery and if required, could get two or three of the lightweight cars on the standard car trailer. I didn't use the light bar on that occasion - just a mag mount beacon.

Just returned from a three week tour of the West country with the Yeti and my caravan ,spotted quite a few Yetis on my travels, the Yeti aroused a lot of interest on all the caravan parks we visited, i felt like a bit of a celebrity, and enjoyed many chats extolling the merits of the Yeti, we met a couple in Cornwall and my wife was obliging enough to find where there nearest Skoda dealer was on her i phone, she commented there should be a commission paid if our recommendations result in a sale.Skoda could give us introduction cards which our contacts would present to the dealer . We broke our journey home in Oxford for a couple of days and met a guy whom i gave a ride in the Yeti who said he would be visiting his local skoda dealer to follow up his interest, incidentally the Yeti was a brilliant beast, and did all that was asked of it on our trip, and will be touring down to Spain next summer.

I wonder what the chances are of the Yeti winning 'Tow Car of the Year'? That must be the only award, assuming there still is such a thing (not a caravaner myself) for the SM to win.

Alas not possible anymore. From this article from November last year:

The European Car of the Year for 2010 is the Volkswagen Polo.

The all-new Volkswagen Polo was announced the winner in the European Car of the Year contest on Monday.

The hatchback received 347 points and was chosen ahead of the Toyota iQ (with 337 points), Opel Astra (221 points), Skoda Yeti (158 points), Mercedes-Benz E-Class (155 points), Peugeot 3008 (144 points) and Citroen C3 Picasso (113 points) by a 59-member panel of judges.

So the Yeti came FOURTH.

I thought there was an award for 'Tow Car of the Year' I'm sure the Octavia had one it in the past?

Hi Onesque,

The Caravan Club Tow Car of the Year 2011 - overall winner was the Skoda Superb Estate 2.0 TDI CR.

It won the Class 4 £25K to £32K

The Class 1 winner was the Skoda Fabia Elegance 1.6 TDI CR Under £16k

Hope that helps

That's a relief, was beginning to think I had been imagining things.
