Help Removing Door Cards

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I finally got round to attempting to fix my leaky rear doors this weekend, however, I had a little bit of a problem removing the door card, in that I couldn't remove the trim around the door pull/handle - I couldn't get the clip on the back of the trim to release, and I didn't want to just pull and break something. Reading the Haynes manual, it says that Skoda have a special tool for doing this, which resembles a bent screwdriver. I was wondering if anyone had any pictures of one, so I could try to make one, or you knew of anyone that made one? I already have a trim removal tool, but it's not narrow enough to fit up the small hole that leads to the clip. :(

Thanks :)

++EDIT: For some reason I said "winder handle" instead of "door pull" - now corrected

Just use your finger and thumb to push the part away from the knob, parallel to the shaft (euphemism alert!) It really is as simple as that!

Hi,

Thanks for that! :)

Unfortunately, I posted in a highly decaffeinated state, and it's not the area around the windscreen winder handle, but the plastic trim on top of the door pull/handle (image #4 here) - don't know why I said winder handle!

Sorry for being an idiot ... :(

I did this job yesterday too.

I know the part you are referring to.

On mine one side came off easily but on the other it

was a little stubborn. You feel like you might break it

but it's quite tough really.

And if you did a replacement would be no more than about 3 quid from

the main dealer. The grey plastic bits are fairly inexpensive.

( The 2ft long plastic rooflining trim was only £6 when I had to replace that.)

I find a hairdryer on stubborn trim parts for 30 seconds to warm them seems

to make them a little more flexible and less likely to snap when measured

force is required.

Assuming youve managed to get the securing tabs to release around the

edge of your trim, there's a little flap at the back

which tucks down behind the door card/handle an inch or so .

Literally just give it a wiggly upwards tug and it will suddenly give and come away.

Don't try and pry the other larger section of door pull trim upwards it slides into

position horizontally and tabs hold it in place which will break if you try that.

This part like the tweeter cover cover is best removed horizontally and

toward the rear of the car.

Just to add I just propped my door cards away from the door rather than

remove them completely to do this job. I used a squeegee as a prop :D

I've read they are a bit of a bleeder to take them right off.

I found there was plenty of room underneath to get them sealed keeping them

on the car. Hope you've got some spare clips. I broke 7  but I had spares

before I started. Part number 5J0 867 276

Yeah, that's the problem I had - it felt fairly attached with the clip at the back, and I didn't want to give it a solid yank for fear of breaking something (probably on the door card, rather than the small bit of trim!).

Yeah, they're refreshingly cheap! :)

OK, I'll try that - thanks. :)

That's the clip I was having problems with (I also have to do one of the front doors, due to a dead speaker) - just wouldn't let go, and couldn't get anything up the little square hole leading to it to get it to release, hence my reference to the bent screwdriver tool in the Haynes book.

Yeah, I picked up a bag or two from my local TPS ... about 90p per bag. :)
