MAM/PMW/GVW of a MkII Skoda Superb Estate

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I have a 10 plate 1.8 TSI Skoda Superb Estate (S) and I am trying to find out what the MAM/PMW/GVW* of the car is. Having looked on the spec sheet the "total weight" of the vehicle is 2096kg, however the sticker inside the door has the following weights:

  • 2096kg
  • 3596kg
  • 1. 1200kg
  • 2. 1250kg

I am 99% certain that the number I am after is 2096kg. It can't be either of the last two as these are too small (I assume these are max axle weights). The first number obviously matches the "total weight" from the spec sheet but the 3596kg number has me confused as I have no idea what that is.

So does anybody know what the MAM/PMW/GVW of the car is? Also does anybody know what 3596kg represents?

Cheers

Hi

the weights quoted on the manufacturers plate are as follows

The first weight is the maximum permitted weight of the vehicle. ie. if put on a weighbridge it must not exceed this.

The second weight is the maximum permittet train (or combination) weight which is the all up weight of the car and anything towed

The next weight (1.) is the first (front) axle maximum weight as measured on a dynamic axle weighbridge

The next weight (2.) is the second (rear) axle maximum weight as measured on a dynamic axle weighbridge

Generally speaking here in Northern Ireland the Police and Transport enforcement units are on the lookout for overloaded Lorries, but that wouldn't stop them weighing a private car which looked a bit heavy.

The problem is that I think they prosecute at 10% overloaded and above. For a 40 tonne lorry that is overloaded by at least 4 tonnes, for your car using the 2096kg weight above you would only need to be ofer the max weight by 201kg!!

The weight plates are a legal requirment on every vehicle and follow the same layout ie. max vehicle weight, max combination weight, axle 1, axle 2, (axle 3, axle 4 etc if it's a multiple axle vehicle),

Hope this is of some help

The 10% is on the MAM/GVW [maximum permitted train (or combination) weight which is the all up weight of the car and anything towed] so this would be up to 3,955kgs if you are towing before prosecution* and 2,305kgs for the car alone - which has a kerb weight of 1,533kgs so giving you a 563kgs payload (this is for the 1.8TSi Estate)

*It is worth noting that drivers who passed their test after 1 January 1997 may fall foul of not having the correct category of driving licence if you go over 3,500kgs
