Got A 1.2 TSI For A Coutesy Car

Featured Replies

I am changing my car in a couple of years time and I wanted to try out the new TSI engine, I asked my local dealer for the TSI while my car was being serviced.

Not sure which version I have got (80.105,) the TSI on the back of the car is all black.

My current car is a 1.9 TDI which is coming up to 6 yrs old but driven the newer version before but not with this engine.

First of all when you start it up they is a bit of noise then silence, which coming from the TDI is so nice lol. I drove slowly out of the dealers and waited at the traffic lights. Lights turned to green and I slowly set of round the bend then I put my foot down, 1st onto 2nd looked at the speedo I was nearly doing 35 before I knew it. When I am in my TDI i can hear the engine so I can workout how fast i am going but this engine is so quiet. so you need to be looking at the speedo all the time. I have just been on the motorway and I was slightly disappointed that I found it slow picking up speed to overtake , but this maybe because I can overtake in 5th gear in my TDI and may a drop down to 4th was need for this engine.

In my current car I have brakes on all for wheels and with these cars only have two it made a big difference.

Overall a nice engine, if this is the 80bph I might need to get the 105 bph for more power.

You do have 4 brakes:

Two disc brakes on the front.

Two drum brakes on the rear.

In your case, if changing I would go for the 105 TSi

I have the 85 which is great for us as we done mainly town driving and rearly go on mototrways but if we did lot of motorways i would have gone for the 105.

Hi, just out of interest are there any/many mechanical difference between the 85 and 105 variants or it is purely software?

Just checked and the rear does not have disc brakes, my current car has.

OH RIGHT.

Yes my 85 has discs up front and drums on the rear.

Same here even with optional ESP :(

Notied from European photos early production FL's appear to have rear discs with ESP, however these have been replaced by obsolete drums, certainly for the UK market anyway.

Yes my 85 has discs up front and drums on the rear.

So does my 105, not sure if any variants other than the vRS have got disks all round.

If the badge on the back is all black then its an 85, my 105 has a small red square in the badge just after the TSI lettering. Actually considering getting the VW Jetta/Passat TSI badge with the red I as i think it looks better than the little "plate" style badge my car currently has.
