Clunk/thumping noise from F/N/S - Fabia VRS SE

Featured Replies

Hi............

I am owner of an 07 plated Fabia VRS SE which has knocking/thumping noise from front nearside.

This noise can occur at any speed and in any gear over a multitude or road surfaces.

My local garage have replaced many bits including anti roll bar and bushes, lower steering arm and upper supension bushes however the same noise is still apparent!!

It would seem that I may have a 'gremlin' lodged in the F/N/S of my car...... has anyone got any ideas what it could now be!

Turning the radio up or crashing the car is not an option!

Hope someone can help......

Cheers

Leaky doors, Cambelt and water pump changed.... and now this! Very expensive car.....

I have had this car since may and have thus far had .......

All door carriers sealed due to a small pond in the rear footwell!!

F/N/S wheel bearing replaced

Front brake pads replaced

Anti roll bar and bushes replaced

Upper strut bushes replaced

Lower steering arm bush N/S replaced and now its back in today for more work to do with initial problem as mentioned above......

I must say though my local dealer has been excellent and never made a fuss.....but would no longer deal with garage i bought car from!!!!

All work so far under Skoda warranty :-)

Car is much fun and loathed to consider getting rid of it now I have spent so much time getting it right! What else gives you the economy and performance from that kind of car!!!!! I would like to meet its original owner........................

Cheers

Have you had them check the nearside engine mount, pads and discs, as well as the bolts at that back of the caliper for any looseness? top mounts, springs and shocks checked over? possibly even front near side tyre

Does the noise get louder with speed or harsher surfaces? have you tried popping it out of gear into neut just as its making that sound to see if it stops?

Tried many things......neutral, all forward gears over multitude of surfaces and the noise is still there although harder to detect at higher speeds ie 50/60/70.

The car is back to main dealer today so hopefully will get the low down tomorrow what IS the problem...

I know it's not any of the new parts that have been put on as the old noise as mentioned above to create this discussion is still apparent!

Thanks for pointers and will pass on all of the comments I have received from this listing!

Hi gfunk!

No the noise is only present when the car is in motion! Its very strange that only the N/S does it and not the O/S as well!

Car been in the garage a whole day now and no word from them! Maybe they have decided to renew the whole front end!

Will let everybody know the result when I get it back!

Thanks again

Hi Wigit

I have the same problem. I've changed the wheel bearing the drive shaft and still the same bloody noise. lucky for you your still under warranty. Im not :'( when you find out what it is I'd love to know.

Thanks Ben

Fortunately I'm under extended warranty as I only purchased car in May this year and when I initially reported problem it was under Skoda 3yr warranty!

I was expecting to collect the car today (fri) but when i arrived at garage car was in bits as they still had not got to the bottom of the problem. They have now replaced many bits under warranty but apparently on latest test run after replacing FNS strut the noise was still present!!

The garage have been brilliant but obviously struggling to find this gremlin! They are now speaking to Skoda direct and with their help hopefully get car trouble free early next week!

I will of course post what they find and let's hope this will resolve yours and others similar noises!

Can you tell me is it your FNS is causing the problem as well?

Wigit

Wigit

Yes its the FNS where the noise is coming from. like a constant thumping which then gets fast and as the car goes faster. it has been doing it for awhile but I have been trying to get to the bottom of it bit by bit, but nothing has fixed it so far.

Guys

At long last I have my car back after some sterling work done by local dealer!

After renewing many parts the offending item has been replaced and all thumping noises eradicated.

There is a gearbox mounting bracket with a sizeable bush positioned under the battery tray within the engine compartment. This connects body to the gearbox and has a substantial bracket and bush to do the job. All that you can see from within the engine compartment looking down in to that area is the 2 connecting bolts and nothing else. Its not until the air filter housing and other components are removed that this bush becomes visible.

I looked at the old mounting bracket at the dealers today and it certainly looked as if it had seen a better day. The part costs about £75 according to the dealer.

The dealer also stated that they have never had to replace one of these before thus the time taken to find the faulty item!

Hope this helps
