Ever ran steelies on your vRS?

Featured Replies

Evening All,

I bought a set of steelies for the car today, equipped with 205/55/r16 Continental tyres. I fitted them this afternoon, took it for a quick spin and heard rubbing from the rear passenger's side.

Upon closer inspection the tyre is making contact with the arch liner at the back. I looked at the arch liner to see if I could alter it slightly to achieve clearance, but directly behind it is thin jagged metal- I'm guessing it might be some heat shielding or something relating to the exhaust.

Now, I know the profile is higher than the standard tyre, and I should point out the car is lowered on Eibachs; but why does it only rub on one side?

Is there any way around this? Unfortunately the only thing I can think of is to get my current tyres fitted to the steelies, but that'll kinda defeat the idea of having a spare set/ winter set of wheels and tyres.

I hope so, as they look mint.

Any help or hints will be appreciated.

you just need the right size tyre on......

+1 you need 205/45/16 assuming of course that your rims are 16"

If you compare your orignal wheels and tyres (205/45/16) to your new ones (205/55/16) you will see exactly what the problem is. Your new tyres will stand 40mm taller than the old ones, and that's why you're having clearance problems.

I kinda thought as much. Odd that it only catches on that one wheel arch though.

Appreciate your replies, thanks  .
