I've bought another Octy but.... how do I get rid of a smokers stench

Featured Replies

Well....

Couldn't let SWMBO get away with a new Yeti and had to get another car. Besides being a 1 car family was becoming a problem..

Anyway, on Saturday, a trip down to somewhere outside Cardiff on a well known budget bus lead to the purchase of an 07 Ambiente 1.6 Fsi Octy.

Really very pleased with it. Indeed I haven't touch the Yeti since but.... the car wreaks of smoke.

A plead. Does anyone know how to get rid of the smell. Also the instrument plastic is even stained by it. Any ideas?

Gave a colleague a lift tonight and he didn't think it too bad. Maybe the non smoker in me but.... help

Take it for a proper interior valet. Wet/dry vac, shampoo the seats etc etc - you'll be amazed at the amount of grime lifted out from the interior, especially if smoked in. They might also be able to clean the interior plastic for you.

I'm sure there'll be some decent places around Warrington. Sorry, I don't know of any I could recommend - but if you're having trouble I've used a guy on the outskirts of Manc city centre. He came by recommendation and the place isn't much to look at from the outside. So don't work on first appearances :)

Cheers,

Steve

My mum's old beemer interior was an absolute state when she went to sell it. We spent £30-40 on a interior clean (as Wardy suggested), and the results were astounding.

I'd recommend it in a heartbeat, and im certain it adding loads to the resale value.

Yep, no doubt. A good one will cost you £30-50 quite easily, but then if they're spending 3-4hrs sorting it, you can see where the money goes.

I wonder if something like a fridge deodoriser would help?

There is always Fabreeze!

Already trying that - it has helped

Seing as I got nearly £3k knocked off the car I don't see £30 - £40 being a problem. As long as the smell goes

I found running some Comma air con cleaner through the AC system and changing the cabin pollen filter led to a marked reduction in tobacco smell in a car I bought a few years ago. The AC cleaner is around a fiver in Tesco's and ECP, but well over a tenner in Halfords.

Anyone seen the advert where the 2 young lads have to pick up Grandma & the car stink, a spray of this product & grandma thinks its a new car. ( Febreeze ) emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

Might be worth try .

And if not, contact the advertising standards agency?

New pollen filter straight off, then get the car wet cleaned inside.

Once it's dried out an air con bomb (as mentioned above) and yet another pollen filter and you should be rid of most of it.

The hardest part to deal with will be the roof lining IMHO.

I hope you get it sorted,

I have a similar problem with our Oct'y, it smells "Doggy" so lots of air freshener and it's getting better.

Problem is freshener only masks the smell.

If you have access to a suitable carpet cleaner ( VAX etc) then using this to clean the seats, mats and carpets (taking care not to soak the area, just wash it) will get rid of a lot of dirt and a lot of smells.

Wet clean the car and use "Flash with Febreeze".

Febreeze and Fridge Freshers use the same volcanic ash particles to remove odour; you used to be able to buy large sachets of the stuff under then name "Non Sense", If I can correct, the ash is "Zeolitic"; something else that contains this stuff is Kitty Litter, so you could try shaking that all over the carpets and seats and leaving them for a day or so.

There is always Fabreeze!
