25mm drop - help please?

Featured Replies

hi,

i know this is prob duplicated somewhere else but ive trawled loads of pages and see conflicting views

ater a long and frustrating search ive got my hands on some spiders (17s), to be fitted on thursday and im edging towards lowering 25mm, i dont want any lower as the pictures ive seen of the inch drop looks good. im swaying towards the eibachs but concrned my shocks will need replacing or is the 25mm drop alright for them to cope?

just wanna put my mind at rest the eibachs alone will be ok without needing new shocks.

my vRS is a 2006 on approaching 70k

thanks

Sam.

When I got my STR.Ts, my car was at 80k, and I reckoned the dampers were starting to feel a bit worn (bit wallowy). But without doing the springs separate from the dampers, it's impossible to tell really... Certainly, the standard dampers will work OK with a 25mm drop, so I guess their condition after 70k is a different matter!

so you changed both? the koni suspension kit isnt vrs specific so the 40mm drop would only be around 25mm im guessing? i just dont want to buy springs then end up having to get new dampers in 6 months time!

Yes to the above. I can't comment on the state of your dampers - maybe you can ask a tame mechanic if you have a favourite garage?

yeah i do have a favourite mechanic but i think ill just go for the koni set, other wise i'll only end up spending twice as much on labour and the inconvinience of not having the car!

I'm in the same boat but mines only done 38k so my shocks will be fine.

Just so you know, get the mechanic to give the underside of the top mounts and all the bushes a good coating of white grease before he hands the car back. The lower ride height puts slightly different stresses and strains on these parts, and they sometimes creak until they're bedded in again...
