Charge for courtesy car

Featured Replies

Hi, before I start ringing around other dealers, I was wondering if this is widespread (never got this with my old Mazda!)...

I've just rung my local dealer to have an electrical fault fixed under warranty. Courtesy cars are available - but at £10 a day to cover insurance. Apparently this may be considered for service work, but for warranty they have no option, "especially as my car was purchased from another dealer".

A (very) quick search hasn't shown others moaning. Are others getting charged too, or do you consider like me that warranty work shouldn't leave me out of pocket?

Ive never paid for a courtesy car, even when i took it to other dealers for warranty work. But if its your closest garage is it worth the extra fuel and hassle driving too and from another free place?

They can bill the manufacture for the loan car, maybe try ringing skoda and see if they can help?

I thinck you will find its quite common practis with all manifacturas, the loan car is free, but they ask you to pay for the insurance cover,

My dealer gives you the choice pay for insurance or tempory add it to your own insurance and provide a cover note but it has to be fully comp ,

Its just another over head there cutting back on

My Local stealer charged me for a courtesy car while mine was in for a major service, gave me a **** 1.1 Hyundai courtesy car, then charged me 15 quid for it at the end without warning me about it first, I was not impressed, considering I had courtesy car cover on my policy, and if I was going to pay for a Hyundai I would rather have used my Bike. needless to say, I havent been back.

My local dealer offers free pick up and drop off of the car which is OK if there's no need for a car whilst it's being serviced....and it's get a free wash too.

Ive been charged £5 for the day before, i do normally get another skoda though, its much cheaper than getting the bus.

It seems to be down to the individual dealer and so somewhat random. When I enquired at City Skoda Basingstoke about a "courtesy" car they quoted (IIRC) 17 quid a day which I swiftly declined. Meaden's at Sway is a tenner I think. My car is currently undergoing 3 day gearbox surgery at Westovers in Corfe Mullen, and they came and collected my car, and left me the keys to a brand spanking new Roomster with 15 miles on the clock which had only arrived on the transporter that morning! Totally gratis - I had to sign the usual insurance form but no charge :) . The only problem is I have underestimated it's fuel economy somewhat and will be returning it tomorrow with half a tank of diesel I paid for :(

Bob.
