Driver's side wing mirror replacement

Featured Replies

Hi everyone

Long story short, I hit a pheasant on the way home yesterday. It connected with the driver's side mirror and has smashed the housing off my 2007 Octavia MK2.

The mirror assembly is hanging at the moment by the electronic lead which connects it into the car.

The mirror obviously sits on lugs which go through a metal plate that is bolted to the outside of the door from inside the car. The metal plate has snapped in half around the bolt.

Does anyone know how to take the door panel apart sufficiently to release and replace the old door mirror assembly? There is no bodywork damage to the vehicle so I would like to try to replace the mirror myself if I can.

Thanks for any help or advice.

IIRC you prise the inside cover off gently to reveal some screws, but obviously I'd wait for somebody else to confirm.

It the glass, lamp and plastic cover are not damaged, then you'll save yourself quite a bit of cash :)

IIRC Be careful prising off the cover as part of the cover runs down behind the door card (dealer tried that on me befor and broke the cover).

Probably best to try remove the door card at that corner, which might give more room to work with.

See top right corner of this,
