ATTENTION! Yeti 4x4 Owners

Featured Replies

Date now changed to the 31st October.

If the old Landcruiser passes its MOT next week without too much trouble I was thinking of taking it down to Salisbury plains for a day splashing through muddles and driving in a bit of mud.

If enough people want to come I don't mind organising a bit of a pack. I think it will still be fairly wet down there, last time I went it was bone dry and very dusty but when it rains that place gets pretty interesting.

There isn't much you can damage your car on since there are no narrow parts or especially steep hills that we have to go down.

A few photos, so you know what it's all about-

Don't worry about getting stuck as we can pull you out of anything you get yourself into with the Landcruisers.

Anyone be interested?

You need to be at the Bustard Inn (or rather the car park outside) SP3 4DU at about 09:30 for a 10am leave and we should be in the plains for a good few hours and once you are in it is very easy to get lost.

Need to get ideally at least 5 Yetis please but the more the merrier, as I'd like to get an excellent Yeti turnout!!

NAMES IN A LIST PLEASE!!

James, would love to but "nice" Network Rail have me working until 0600 that morning, so I think I will be needing some zzzzzz's. I presume you have some ideas for where you are going to go?

Wow. I'd be up for this James, but A no Yeti until end of November and B even if I had had one I'm in Greece from this weekend for a week! Enjoy though.

If it would increase numbers i could postpone it until the 31st? Paul who has waited about 3 million years for his Yeti will have it by then and I imagine he may want to come.

My friend who frequents the plains very often will be doing a recce before hand and letting the wardens know where we will be.

Also allowing more time might get more Yetis on board.

Hmm.. Yes I think date will need to be changed!

We'll be teaming up with another forum http://www.landcruiserclub.net/ a few of the guys off there will be joining us to help with navigation as it's very easy to get lost there and with recovery of anyone who gets stuck which is pretty likely but it's important to learn the capabilitys and limits of your vehicle.

The guys from the Landcruiser forum are all very experienced offroaders and should be able to offer valuable advice.

I don't suppose many people on here will have access to a CB radio for the day?

EDIT- Can a mod change the title of my thread to reflect the revised date of 31st October please. Thanks.

Good! If on the 31st one of my issues is not an issue! So I'm in as a passenger somewhere as long as someone can take me back to my A2 at the meeting point.

James, that is a possibility. All I've got to do is persuade SWMABO!!

Just bribe her. A peace offering of new shoes and a matching handbag should do the trick.

Regret I'm on grandparent duty that weekend, and any absence will be noted and punished severely (Sounds fun), - but might well be interested on another occasion. Enjoying doing forestry in the Lakes at present.

I hope that in due course some enterprising person is going to produce an alloy underbody tray !

Smick

James,

those sorts of things don't interest her, however a new bodrahn or a sewing machine........................................

Smick,

beware about using Forestry tracks unless they are "Byways Open to All Traffic" or you have written permission from the land owner. If caught, at worst you can have your car taken away and scrapped, or be hit with a hefty fine and points.

If you or any other member would like any advice on "green laning" or about any particular "route", if you provide me with the start and finish map references in the format of AA 123 456 I can check these fairly accurately. Please do this by PM and not on the open forum!

And if someone could provide me with the dimensions of the alloy undertray, I have a friend with a fabricating company.

Thank you for the invite James, but I cannot make it that weekend..........................sorry :'(

Hope you all have a BRILLIANT & MUDDY TIME :D

Hello James,

I hope this does no replace the shindig on November 28th?

I'm sorta lining up to make that a possibility.

I would love to James......only 1 problem. I don't think you will have delivered my Yeti by then.emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

Not entirely sure at the moment to be perfectly honest, the lady in charge of events was thinking of maybe doing it at the end of the year before Christmas in December. But we shall see. I shall keep you posted.

----

Come on guys, anyone able to make it?

The route will last a good few hours. There will be 3-5 experienced offroad drivers with Landcruisers most of which have done professional or military training for offroad driving and should be able to provide some useful driving tips and also recovery tips as I want to show you the limits of the Yeti and how to try to avoid getting stuck once it starts to loose grip.

I'd like to get as close to 8 Yetis for this event please.

James, if you can lend me a Yeti for a test drive, i can come along

Our demo Yetis are only 2WD at the moment otherwise I think I'd bring one down myself.

I can't make this, but would love to know how well the base TDI 4x4 Yeti performs compared with it's more powerful sisters (or is that brothers) :-)

How come I pick the weekend where everyone is busy! :(

I'm not busy James, but our Yeti is only 2wd! :)
