Completely agree with your conti comment. Shocking when below 3mm :( That was with premium and sportcontacts. Never buy them again.

Ah, did hear that about the F1s as well. Have ran sets before, but coincidentally either sold the car or the wheels they were fitted to, before they go below 3mm :D

Glad it's not just me with the Contis too - I wasn't best pleased. As a new tyre is usually 8mm, equating 5mm instead of 6mm of 'usable tread' makes a fairly big difference in the cost per 1000 miles, or however you want to cost it. And they weren't particularly cheap to start with!
