Fast, tax friendly small hatch.... But which one?

Featured Replies

I'm looking for a little fast hatch to replace octy vrs soon, I've got a van and use of a new navara so I don't need to have a big estate anymore.

Anyway I run it through my company so it needs to be company car tax friendly.

I've looked at usual suspects, Clio 197, cooper s clubman corsa vxr and could do with some ideas,

Not a new fabia though as I think it's a pig dog to look at!!

2011 Polo gti looks good though and same engine

Ideas please

See my sig!!

I looked at a Clio 197 but on the test drive I found it really lacked any grunt or any sense of performance. Great chassis and they look great, but not really fun so I ruled it out.

Alfa Romeo Mito Cloverleaf, Suzuki Swift Sport,

I had a Suzuki Swift Sport and have just traded it in for my Octy Vrs. The SSS is, in my opinion, a fun car but it is very, very small and compared to all the turbo'd small cars that are being produced now it's pretty slow, put your foot down and it makes a lot of noise..but not much happens. What about Fabia Vrs / Seat Ibiza Cupra? Both turbo so you get a hefty kick, DSG as standard and tax comes in good I think because of the size of the 1.4 engine. Just a thought.

Late model Fabia 1.4 TDi - get one with FSH , and uprate brakes ,then uprate to 100BHP- Then I'd suggest you've got a good looking fairly snappy small hatch - but VED wise cheap to get on road .

Tax friendly now = <100 g/km CO2 (as 100% first year allowances) and that really restricts your choice. Off the top of my head the only really reasonable car in this bracket is the 1.4 TDI VW polo bluemotion which is 99g/km.

Sorry, it could also be a diesel, BMW 123d coupe looks well and the efficient dynamics engine is pretty tax friendly, but I like the look of

the Audi A3 170 black edition.......

When I said tax friendly, I meant reasonable tax rate

Sorry for confusion.

Funnily enough I had a look at the Bluemotion and would say you'd have to be very "eco-conscious" to suffer with one. MINI Cooper D emits the same CO2 but is actually fun to drive with some respectable performance to boot. Probably not what the OP is looking for though

What's to stop you taking the VED allowances and hotting it up a little .Mind you if the Polo's got the same brakes as mine -I'd suggest a quick brake upgrade first .I've found the 1.4 brakes great if you're driving it like an old gent .Put yer foot down ,and at times they lack a bit of grunt .
