How do you find the 110bhp unit for performance/fuel consumption?.

Do you ever regret not ordering the 140bhp unit?.

We test drove a 110 bhp tdi.Quite adequate.We ordered a 170 bhp tdi......nuff said ;)

When we test drove the wife's car it came in 115/140/175. She opined "just get the one you'll be happy with..." That's my girl.

Got a 110 Elegance. For me it was a trade off between power +4x4 and kit and trim and 2WD. I'm happy with the power. Sure it's no racing car but then I didn't buy it for that. It does everything I need and enough low down grunt to overtake and negotiate busy junctions. It's only a matter of acceleration as top speed is more than enough for our pot holed English roads. I live in the country and really appreciate being able to take to the verge on single track roads without being bounced all over the place as with my Civic. Sure the Civic was faster but I'd rather have the comfort and kit in the Yeti. Looks great too! And achieves a reported 60mpg on long trips!

i was all set to go with the 105bhp engine a couple of years ago; all paperwork complete, dealer mentally calculating his commission (not much as i'd driven a hard bargin), just had to sign on the dotted line, but there had been a PD vRS demonstator around for my last few visits, So just to prove that i didn't want / need all that extra power took it for a spin. 45 mins later, came back, kids screaming, big grin on SWIMBOS face, original paperwork in bin & a new VRS on the way :rofl:

Originally we wanted the 140bhp 4x4 but the only one we could find in stock was a red one and my other half wanted any colour but red. We were all set to order a black 140bhp Elegance, but when we were told the waiting times, we weren't prepared to wait ... so we decided to go for what was in stock ... a 110bhp 2WD SE and I'll hire a 4x4 when I really need one.

Do I regret not ordering the 140bhp vehicle? Not a bit - I am very impressed with the 110 and while I'd like 4WD, being 100% honest with myself, it's only a couple of weeks of the year I'd really use it (OK, and maybe in the winter too!). The performance is more than adequate for the UK and economy is starting to look very reasonable 50mpg + at 2k miles and I'll probably clock up another 1k miles this weekend - some of that very light off-road stuff.

To quote Lord Acton "Power corrupts, and ultimate power corrupts ultimately" - think he was talking about the 170 Yeti :giggle:

We test drove the 140 but bought a 110. Performance is fine, quiet, smooth, quick enough and very economical, never less than 54 mpg on a tank.

I have 110 hp unit does everything that I require from a engine including towing my caravan comfortably 60 + in fifth, never driven the 140 hp , so i cant miss something I've never had.

Little did you know but all 110 owners bought a detuned 140.........now If the tuners can get over the ecu security it will remap to 180 bhp :-)

Even the secured ecu's can be remapped with no issue, they just can't be done via the obd port.

I got the 110 tdi elegance. I would have loved the 140 or even the 170 but it came down to price and equipment for me. Those leather seats and xenons won over on the day. Do i regret it.........yes and no. The 110 performance is OK, nothing special, I have had faster golfs/ocatavia and fabs with the old 1.9 tdi unit, but its perfectly OK and very smooth. Economy wise I am getting 48ish mpg and have done 5500 miles so far, mostly urban driving. On a recent trip to France and Spain got 49mph for a 3200 mile trip at mostly 70mph. Economy does seem to suffer the more you go over 60 mph on a cruise, but thats the same for most cars. I would still buy another 110 but wish I had an extra bundle of cash for the 140.

But a lot of people are quite happy with "only 110 bhp" and I can understand that.

When I drive the Fabia with only 105 bhp I feel it is enough for my needs.

When I drive the vRS I could get locked up for a bit..

When I ride the bike I could get locked up with the key thown away......

But I know better than that and moderate my speed accordingly :)

The 110 bhp TDI is enough in most cases imo. More than this, most TDI's got a remarkably power spread (more than 10%) and the little TDI is an unbreakable engine. Just wait for the first 5-10000 kilometers, you'll be surprised. On the other hand you can safely chip the TDI up to 140 bhp cuz' the main engine parts are the same on the 110/140 bhp TDI.

Any recommendations for remapping/ chipping? Something reversible preferably.
