Bonnet and Motorway

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I just drove from Durham to London tonight and whilst on the motorway, the bonnet opened itself!! Luckily it was only on the latch (ie the bonnet didn't open fully, but rocking at speed), Obviously I immediately pulled over and shut it again, this actually happened almost 60 miles into the journey and after a rougher part of the motorway, the bonnet did that.

I am 100% sure I have shut the bonnet correctly last time and the bonnet looks shut. My question is whether anyone has experienced the same thing? I am planning to take it into my local dealer to have the latch checked for peace of mind.

Cheers!

OOOOO thats not good

Hope it doesn't turn out to be like the Renault Clio debacle

Same thing happened to me when I was driving an Alfa Romeo through the Wallasey Mersey Tunnel, managed to get to the exit OK.Never happened again,I presumed I did not slam the bonnet hard enough the last time I shut it.

I'm clocking up a lot of miles (mostly motorway and A roads) in the Yeti at the minute and its not happened to me yet.

Maybe didnt catch properly last time you had it open to top up the washer water or something??

To close the bonnet properly, just let it drop the last foot or so. Nice solid clunk and Bob's yer uncle.

Thanks all, the Yeti has gone into a Skoda dealer in Durham yesterday and will see what they say about it tomorrow. Hopefully its nothing!

Probably nothing fella. I had a look under my bonnet the other day and was surprised how tough it was to shut. Trying to respect my new wheels I let it fall the last few inches and it didn't close properly. Tried forcing it a bit with my 16 1/2 stone frame but still no luck. Had to re-open it and drop from, as previously mentioned, about a foot for it to "clunk" into place. The tailgate needs a decent shove too. All the openings sound reassuringly solid when you do shut them though :)

Thanks, I just got my car back from Pulman Skoda and they checked it and all is functioning properly, so I guess I must have not shut it hard enough, so I am sure there's no worries there!!
